Methanol + water = milky

Methanol + water = milky
I was in tucson az this past weekend helping vroomevo and zzombae with their Aquamist HFS-5. They run 50M-50W mix.
We got some supposely "100% methanol" from this hotrod shop. It stinks BAD and did not smell sweet like methanol...i did not think much of it.
Anyways when we mixed the meth with distilled water, the solution turn cloudy/milky...and we went ahead to fill the tanks.
Zzombae did some research and found this:

When methanol is contaminated with hydrocarbon eg fuels, it turns cloudy when mixed with water.
We suspect that the hotrod shop is using the same pump they used for race fuels to pump methanol.
We went to a local chemical supply house to get a sealed 5 gallon drum for ~$32, and this stuff smells right
Siphon the contamined stuff out and put in this new mix. What a pain

Good info, also just FYI to anyone:
Good methanol will also have a very slight light blue color to it. When you mix it with water it will also get warm as the meth and water molecules combine.

yea theres been a couple times that I picked up "100%" meth and then mixed it and it was definitely cloudy...theres nothing like pure meth...although i still am partial to the smell of race gas haha...
