So you have my attention and respect for your experience despite lowering yourself to call me an idiot, but how can you say that increased cylinder pressure does not direclty relate to knock? We are two experienced guys not 18 year old kids. Lets please stop the name calling and immature bickering. I am perfectly willing to have an intelligent conversation on the topic. The readers will benfit from it and I am always willing to learn something new. You win hands down with your level of experience with N20. You do however seem to be talking about total race tunes for max power not safety. Why do all N20 manufacturers recommend -2 degrees per 50 HP when going over 50 HP shot. Can you get away with less. Sure but it certainly puts it more on the edge. I would really like to turn this converation around from hostility to a learning expereince for everyone involved. I would eventually like to run huge amouts of nitrous and design a whole engine build around that goal. Custom cams, big exhaust valves, direct port, etc..

I am not too big of a man to apologize if you are big enough to continue an intelligent conversation which you are obviously capable of and you seem to have a lot of knowledge to contribute. My questions about your theory stand and I am ineterested to hear how raised cylinder pressure does not contribute to knock.

BTW I re-read my post and saw my mistake. I meant to say that you can run a 50 shot without a tune. Somehow I missed the "out" portion. I was just typing too fast. This is why I edited it. not any change in my opinion yet.

The raised cylinder pressure is what makes the heat. Heat is what causes detonation right?

You see where I am going with this.

So would you agree that above 50 HP the cooling effect is overcome by the increased cylinder pressure thus the need to start backing out timing?

Thanks for your valuable contribution. Why even come to the nitrous forum to make such a statement? Perhaps if you were to elaborate on why you are against it it may contribute to the discussion.

Absolutely. I feel that you should have an eye on detonation from the onset of spraying nitrous.

I did a bunch of reading and found that NX (nitrous express) seemed to work the best for the people over on camaro/trans am forums(they LOVE nitrous).

You should be fine with a 50 shot on the stock map!

If you aren't on the stock map and stock boost. IE: you are already tuned for more power, then I wouldn't spray. If you want, you could throw in some 104 or higher gas then you could probably spray on a tuned map.

either way, you should always run race gas if you are spraying nitrous. I know it is possible to spray on pump gas, but it is very very cheap insurance to run race gas.

Good luck... Please post your results.

by reading the original post, all I want to say is GOOD LUCK! seriously.

I do support the use of both nitrous oxide and methanol, they are both great power adders but one must be aware of their pros and cons.

nitrous oxide creates a more oxygen rich environment in the cylinder, promoting quicker burn. That's why you need to back timing out. The intercooling effect of nitrous is a plus, but it does not compensate for the quicker burn rate in the cylinder. 2 degrees of timing per 50hp shot is a very well accepted rule of thumb.
