windshield washer fluid as meth???
windshield washer fluid as meth???
ok so i met this dude today and he drives and 05 evo with meth... i am thinking of running aquamist but i live in NM so id haveto have it shipped to me. also i hear crazy stories of failures and leaks causing probs. i asked him where he buys his meth and he said he uses windshield washer fluid that is a 60/40 meth to water mix... is this true, safe, possible????
Ok. For starters.
WWF is usually meth in a 30% concentration. Take for ex. Peak -20*
It's 30-33% methanol by volume.
So what you can then do is pour 2 12fl oz bottles of HEET in it. And it will take you up to around 44-46% methanol by volume / per gallon. This typically works out to about $5/gallon.
Yes this works.
No the systems don't fail. Solder your wiring, route things in an intelligent manner. Mount your pump where it will not get banged around, or sh*t dropped on it. Ensure your connections are cut flat and clean with a sharp razor. Periodically check your connections for leaks or hardening of the tubing if they run near hot areas in the engine bay. And you will have no issues.
So yes, it's true, but... you buddy was kinda talking out of his a$s about some of it. Well, at least his ratio's are way off. In warmer area's you have to be careful though. If it never gets real cold there, your WWF may not be -20* it may only be -10* or the straight 32* non methanol detergent type WWF. Go to the store, see what is available to you. And then decide how you plan on procuring methanol.
Your other options are to find a hobby store. One that deals with RC cars usually can get methanol as it is a part of the fuel mixture that they run. Just be careful... most of those premixed fuels have nitromethane in them as well. I wouldn't advise that...
DO NOT USE ANY WWF THAT CONTAINS ANY KIND OF GLYCOL! Avoid ANY that suds up like soap, or any detergent based ones as well. You want water, meth, and 1% dye. That's it. Typically the orange, green, and purple... you stay away from just in my experience.

ok cool. yeah he was saying that he buys regular wwf from like target and pours it in at a 60/40 mix thats perfect. would u recomend this or just ordering meth from somewhere. or 100% water?? what kind of kit u like??
So he's buying concentrate or basically 99% methanol. That's different. And that is fine.
Use whatever allows you to run the same mixture every time. If that means you running to target, buying concentrate, and mixing your own. So be it. Keeping the mixture the same is the most crucial part to keeping things consistent. If you order 5 gallons from VP etc that is probably best. But if you run out all the time and then have to scramble to get something, and its not the same... it's going to cause you grief.
I run as close to 50/50 as I can manage. I am familiar with Labonte's kits because that is what I sell. It's also the kit that is on my car.
I like the simplicity, and reliability of their kits, and I especially like dealing with a company that stands behind their products no matter what. IMO they fit this to a 'T' while still remaining affordable.
There is a ton of information in the meth forum. Do some research and see what you might want. Dan from LMS is extremely helpful, and I can help too if you get confused or stuck.

I guess I could chime in and say I just recently installed a new meth kit about a month ago now. Im running a labonte isg-s3 and since I installed it I have been using the peak and heet mixture.
I have had good results so far. Initially was running a m7 jet but I maxed it out quickly and switched to a m10 that I also bought along with a dual nozzle upgrade. The dual nozzles is just waiting till I decide it's needed.
As for the car I have increased peak timing by about 4 degree's and up top Im at like 19-20 degree's. Im running a ported 9 turbo also pushing to about 28-30psi tapering to 23-24 psi. All the logging is done through evo scan, jdm map, and a gm bcs.
Ive checked the jets and the seem clean nothing building up. Also have checked my plugs and they are actually very clean and just golden colored.
Edited:: I was reading above and Im kind of interested in the concentrate at target. The wwf is just convenient and its not that expensive. I by no means am light footed and drive the car likes its meant to be. But a concentrate is better and target is just as convenient as Advanced auto parts.

Link the thread. I started looking through your posts for it, but its buried and with no idea what the title is... well, I've got better things to do than dig through 1200 of your posts to find it.
How long have you been running meth, and what problems did you specifically have?

Im curious as to what problems he encountered also. Before buying a kit I was reading a lot lurking on other forums to see what people that about wwf being used as meth. When I read that on a viper forum that wwf is what they use as long as your careful about it then its fine.
Dustin Im also curious as you said you run your car with out a fail safe ? Im running LMS ISG-S3 and currently not running a fail safe besides the one built into the controller. I plan on buying one but I think Im going to go with a zeitronix fail safe set up and LMS boost by pass kit.
Im hoping with the new kit that I dont run into any problems. Trusting in their name more or less for now.
I was also curious if the op could find out more about the concentrate that is sold at target his friend gets. Or whether its just a better wwf.

Well my choice was between aquamist or labonte's. I was trying to figure out who gave you more for your money or even who was cheaper but came with more.
The new aquamist kit the hfs-6 is like 9 bills and you get a gauge. While labonte's isg-s3 is 600 and you get a nice touch screen that also is progressive and controlled by a its own map sensor and IDC. All preference I guess.

and which is safer???

They each have their own fail safes. Labonte's has the ifs-10 to detect any discrepancies in flow and you can also monitor flow from it. Along with that they have their boost by-pass kit to kick the car to waste gate pressure.
But you can also use a zeitronix wide band for a fail safe set up also.
I forget about aquamist's set up after deciding to try out labonte's. Have to get that from some one who has it. Im very happy with my kit though and plan to buy the ifs-10, bbk, and Ill be using the zeitronix wide band as a fail safe.
