Basic mods + nitrous?

I'm currently running Stage 2+ on my car. I have a full catless tbe, intake, 272/272 cams, mbc, fp, etc etc. I'm at the point where I want a little more power but don't want to pay for a bigger turbo and risk a bunch of other things going wrong.

With that in mind, I have been toying with the idea of simply adding a 50, 75, or 100 shot of nitrous to my current set-up via a WOT switch.

Now, before people come in here with flamethrowers, let me tell you that I realize the powers of nitrous and am not very afraid of it. I've seen it run fairly reliably on many cars.

So what do you guys think? I would obviously need a tune... But what about the fact that the timing has to be retarded? Do I need a "nitrous map" and a "normal map"? Or is there a way to tune it into my normal map so when the system is active the timing will be retarded when the WOT switch is engaged?

Finally, the most obvious topic is the longevity of the set-up. I do understand that adding ANYTHING to a motor will put more stress on it and subsequently shorten the life of it; but would my motor be able to hold up for a decent amount of time with my current mods, a good tune, and a smart user?

Thanks and sorry if my thoughts are jumbled... There is a lot to get across in one post.

Stage 2+, is this an audi we're talking about here?

Most evo guys do alky injection instead of nitrous, the power gains are as big and you can use it all the time w/o issue.

I really dont think you are gonna be getn many answers from here about nitrous. I think there is like a 2% of evo owners that do use it but like scheides said everyone goes alky inj instead just cause is better gains and less consequences of eng failure!

the first time you spray it, it will change your motor.....

Every time you spray you will make less power without it.

not worth it period as stated above. Get bigger turbo and do it right the first time or add meth injection. I dont like meth but as others stated the gains are similar and safer on the motor persay.

Get a bigger turbo kit w/ supporting mods, it's better and safer in the long run.

+1 You can't run out of boost, but you can run out of nitrous.

do you guys really think Meth makes more power than N2O ,haha...please do some research, just because everyone runs meth on here doesnt mean it makes more power....with his basic mods, running meth and more boost will net him around 30 HP

how much power do u think a 70 shot of n2o will net him????

Why all the nitrous haters out there?

Couple of counter points to some of the drivel posted so far.
1. When you run out of meth, most kits grenade the motor without proper failsafe. When you run out of nitrous, you go pig rich and save the motor.
2. Nitrous DEFINITELY can make more power than meth or water any combo of the two.
3. Nitrous will spool a big turbo and eliminate lag, meth can't do this.
4. Dollar for dollar, nitrous will give you more power than meth.
5. When done right, just like meth, nitrous is safe.

True nitrous is the bomb I have sprayed many vehicles and it always was awesome. BBBBUUUUUTTTTTTT
Any big dose of gas to a factory turbo car is gonna be scary without being an expert and having lots of experience with spraying.

Nitrous doesn't blow motors.
People using nitrous the wrong way blows motors.

It does however wear em out fast as hell.

Can you please explain these comments?

How does it change a motor and why would you make less power after using it?

He was joking about the power loss there

I also agree with C130 to a degree. Nitrous is very safe if used properly. Quite frankly when you are using water/methanol, you are in a very good position to use nitrous as well. This is because the water/methanol cools not just the intake air charge, but also the cylinder temps as well. This is very useful in nitrous applications where heat in the combustion chamber is the enemy in a big way. Also, the methanol is richening your AFR a bit, which is in effect helping to keep the overall AFRs in line when you spray. So essentially water/methanol acts as protection against cylinder temps directy while also acting as a bit of a 'wet shot' for the nitrous.

With this protection in place, nitrous should not really wear out an engine much more than boost would in terms of compression loss etc.
