AEM Water/Methanol Injection
AEM Water/Methanol Injection

Hey all, I'd like to take a moment to introduce ourselves and review the features and benefits of our water/methanol injection product line.
AEM Performance Electronics is American owned and operated and has been headquartered in the Los Angeles area since its founding in 1987. Our engineering staff of 10 engineers, both electrical and mechanical, are also avid racers and performance automotive enthusiasts just like you. We pride ourselves on our commitment to provide our customers with high quality, higher value, innovative products. AEM created the first plug-n-play stand alone engine management system as well as the first gauge-based wideband UEGO controller and our latest innovations include our full line of digital and analog gauges, the new X-WiFi engine data monitoring system, and of course our water/methanol injection products. All AEM electronics products are engineered in-house and the majority of our components are manufactured domestically. When we do source a component overseas it's manufactured to our stringent specs and tolerances under ISO, QA, or TS standards, in clean room environment where applicable.

Our design philosophy behind the AEM water/methanol injection system was to create a complete kit that uses the highest quailty components at an affordable price. We feel that we've successfully developed a product that meets the needs of the vast majority of people looking for a boost referenced, progressively controlled injection system.
We don't believe a stripped down kit is a good value, regardless of price so we made things like a 1 or 5 gallon tank (kit dependent) and level sensor standard, not options. Same with the check valve. Additionally, three injection nozzles come standard instead of only two like other systems offer. Also, a basic safety feature, "Boost Safe", that monitors the system for readiness comes standard as well.
So what exactly does the "Boost Safe" do? It monitors the injection system to protect against most mechanical or installation type errors. These are things like broken or cut wires, a blown fuse or even an overheated injection pump. And of course, it also checks for the most unintended yet common problem of all, being low or out of fluid. It does all of this by checking for shorts, high current draw, open circuits, high or low voltage conditions as well as the fluid level. Of any of these errors exist, the controller triggers a low side (ground) output that can be used however is needed to put the motor into a safe operating mode.
For example, the "Boost Safe" output can be hooked to a normally closed relay that powers your electronic boost controller and when the output triggers your EBC will turn off reverting boost down to wastegate spring pressure, preventing engine damage. The "Boost Safe" output can also be hooked to a stand alone EMS, using it to trigger different boost and ignition maps upon activation. It can also be hooked up to a spark retard input on a CDI which will retard the timing when the "Boost Safe" is activated.
Once the "Boost Safe" triggers, the controller will continue trying to inject while monitoring and re-testing the system and it will automatically reset itself if the error is corrected. No other system offers this type of protection as a standard feature and most don't even have it available as an option. Also, just to clear something up, a common misconception is that the system stops injecting if it detects low fluid. This is incorrect; the system does NOT stop injecting it there is a low fluid condition.

What about monitoring flow? AEM now offers an analog water/methanol injection flow gauge. Other gauges have been avialable but their displays are limited to either a segmented digital display using a third party gauge unit or a bar graph-style display that never seems to provide any real useful information. The AEM flow gauge is the first needle-type gauge that's easy to read with its super smooth needle movement and resolution down to 10 cc/min. The gauge has a pair of LEDs in the display face that flash when an overflow condition occurs. The flow gauge also has a 0-5 volt analog output for use with loggers or stand alone engine management systems. Another plus is that our flow gauge matches the rest of our entire line of analog gauges so you no longer have that one odd ball gauge that just doesn't look right in your car. The flow sensor uses 1/4" push-to-connect style fittings so it can easily be retrofitted to most existing water injection systems, regardless of the brand. And yes, all AEM gauges are fully designed and manufactured by us and not a third party, private label gauge maker. No additional controllers or modules are require to use this gauge.

And last but not least, AEM now has a fully serviceable water/methanol injection filter. The micronic mesh element filters out particles down to 40 microns in size. Use this to increase the longevity of your entire injection system and to protect the flow meter from foreign particle obstructions. This filter also uses 1/4" push-to-connect style fittings so it can also be used with most existing injection systems, regardless of brand.
The bottom line is that AEM has everything necessary to fill your water/methanol injection needs and we offer the absolute best value for your dollar. AEM does sell directly to retail customers but we also have a global distribution network which allows you to purchase AEM products any where at any time.
Please feel free to reply to this post with any questions you might have specifically about our water/methanol injection products and I can answer any of your non-injection related questions through PM.
Thanks.
