They're claiming it's good for an extra 49hp thru additional boost.

It's not clear how such a system, which requires distilled water, will be adapted to work in cold climates, but Bosch is working on that.
One word: methanol.

I've seen enough of engine damage from methanol systems to make me want to never use one.

I agree. I wouldn't use it in my car either. Just saying methanol or any alcohol for that matter would solve the freezing water issue.

I wonder if they're implementing it to keep the intake ports and intake valves clean/free of carbon. And the extra power is just a side bonus.

I believe they are using straight water, which I am guessing would not be great at cleaning valves?

Water injection is water.
A bit of alcohol is only used to prevent freezing.

There's no other reason that you add alcohol to a water injection system.

I assume you are excluding methanol here.

Methanol IS alcohol. So is Ethanol.

It's to prevent freezing, nothing else.

Whatever "Damage" you see from a methanol injected car must be from a failed system. Even my system needs constant monitoring, nozzle checked for blockage, etc etc.

Using only water, distilled water would not see those problems. And I guess using 25% methanol wouldn't either.
