1st of all, i never came out & said "KINGPIN STOLE MARV'S CAR"! i am well aware of Marv's success with your company, however as a true FRIEND i have to make him aware of all possibilities. anything is still possible at this point & given the bad rap that tuner shops have had in AZ it can't be overlooked especially since there is a hack program for Ecutek. i have heard of negative publicity in regards to your company HOWEVER i have not agreed to that cuz i have not seen proof of that so it means nothing to me. i have no doubt that you can build a car as it takes very little skill however, i just think that there should be some sort of accolades for your build besides trophys. customers want to see timeslips & videos of your work in action. what i think we all need to do here in boring AZ is HAVE A TUNER SHOOTOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! get every tuner in AZ to proof their worth to the public in a contest for build quality, tuning ability, & overall performance. all rumors would quashed at that point since each tuner's rep would be on the line. so the next time you wanna open your mouth make sure you can back it up.

Mind you...with the immobilizer key, you have to program all of the keys at the same time...and obviously that couldn't happen without quite a bit more information/proof of ownership. Show me where the ECUTek software allows you to READ and access ALL of the lines of code within the ECU. You can't. I work for Subaru, and that is how I know. There are multiple levels of access built into the ECU, and the final layer is where Subaru goes with their Select Monitor.

1. In order to get an immobilizer key cut (by using VIN number), you have to have the registration, AND your driver's license, and they MUST MATCH EXACTLY.

2. Getting the key programmed requires that you have ALL keys to the vehicle in your possession.

What IS dangerous IS posting the VIN number of the vehicle on a public board. If you want to help him, you just need to post the last four digits. That gives about a 1/10,000 chance (which STi's aren't imported in that high of numbers) that there are two with the same last four digits. I know from the VIN decoding that I have access to (at the dealership) that there aren't two STi's with the same last four digits...

Honestly, before you try to libel a company, you need to learn the facts.

I feel bad for this guy for having his car jacked from him. That really SUCKS!! I however think that he needs to look for the culprits somewhere else.
well you are brainwashed by subaru into believing their cars' ECU's can't be hacked or bypassed. if you truly believe there is no way to hack an ECU, then you sir are an idiot. it's a simple binary hex program.

as far as the immobilizer is concerned, there is info on the NET how to bypass it WITHOUT an original key & 1 of the reasons for this is the dealer doesn't always give the "repo man" the 3rd key.

as far as your above points 1 & 2 are concerned, this security measure is not regulated & therefore cannot be depended on. i called 10 random dealerships in the us & canada & ALL of them were willing to send me a key no ?'s asked.

as far as VIN's are concerned, i found a website that lists VIN's of all vehicles whether stolen or not. & it's the last 6 digits that are usually important not 4.

Wow, i am not sure you understand how the ecu works.. Call cobb and ask them how "simple" it was from them to crack the ecu..

I agree with Bluesti, i would be more then happy to enter my car into the tuner chalange.. The problem is, we will all have different mods so it isnt going to work..

I do not tune for kingpin, our tuner is worlds better then me.. However i did tune a car with almost the same mods as your evo to run 11.8@117.5 with a crappy 60' on 23psi, stock turbo, no nitrous..

To everyone else that has"heard" bad things about Kingpin, please do ME one favor, come down to the shop and check it out, meet the staff and make your own conclusions. Do not take some ones word for it, who has something to gain by bad mouthing..

You know... I heard about Dustin's cam buying experience over at Kingpin during the last Phoenix Dynoflash event. I decided to try to give Kingpin a chance and buy my cams from there. But after multiple phone calls and no returned messages over the course of 3 days, I ended up just buying them somewhere else.

This was due to growing pains of a company bursting at the seams with new growth.. They scooped me on board for this exact reason.. It is my job to keep people happy, and keep the service top notch.. Mike realized he had a problem keeping up with the sheer growth of Kingpin, and he took the proper action to correct it, if you ever need anything give me a call and see what you think now.. I have been an enthusiest for years, and now finally am in the position to treat people how i wish i was treated by vendors when i was building my cars over the years.

We will be STOCKING tons of evo parts, not to mention have our own line of high quality parts to offer..

Hi guys,

I think it's time for me to jump in... I was told today about this issue and would like to get you the information I have concerning MY05 STI.

I personally own a 2005 STI with Immobilizer and I am the North American Rep for EcuTeK. Please, in the future, contact me if you have questions about how our software works.

1- To get in a 05 STI you need the OEM remote. (right, there is professional theft...)

2- If you open the hood or any doors the horn will go on and wake you up big time.

3- If the guy has the remote, two beeps will tell you the doors are unlocked. (Maybe, waking you up)

4- Then, you still need the key to start the car... Or do a "major" wiring" job.

5-EcuTeK software can only Synchronize an Immobilser ECU to an NEW Engine ECU , it cannot read any Immobilser data or codes.

EcuTeK software cannot and does not communicate with any part of the OE Alarm system or Alarm Remote Fob.

6- If that was done, the old key would not work and you friend could never drive home...

7- Does your friend still have all the keys??? This common knowledge, the theft knows the car has an immobilizer. They are now getting into the house, steel the keys and drive away.

Because I know it is too easy to steal a car nowadays, I have equipped my STI with a Satellite and microwave transmitter so it can be traced if stolen. It’s the same price as an alarm but 100% more effective.

I feel sorry for him and would not see my car go away.

please contact me directly at any time for any other questions you may have,

Ben

HouseDJ,

I appreciate you are doing a favor to your friend by posting here, I feel really bad about your friends car, obviously someone stole the car to remove valuable parts and not for a bank robbery getaway car.

The thing is that without proff you can't afford to make statements like this in a public forum, I mean you are basicly involving Kingpin on this issue because they installed the ECUTEK.

I am very neutral, and from my own experience Kingpinperformance has been a great shop and it has a decent reputation. Lets the profesionals do their job(police taken finger prints, insurance detective finding scams, ECUTEK service department giving you details about how to get the inmobilizers digits unlocked etc)

For now, we should not make assumptions because it can really ruin Kingpins business.

Ahhhhhhhh MAN! That sucks. But the good news is that he's only out his deductible and he can get himself another brand new STi.... or he can wait a couple more months and pick up the Evo IX!

I hope they catch the theives.
