California exhaust ticket experiences

TAENAIVE, did you get CVC 27151 Correctable or noncorrectable? If noncorrectable, the ref's job is to decibel rate your exhaust and pass it. They will NOT look under your hood unless you with hit with gross emissions. For those wondering how the dB test is administered, the soundmeter is placed 20" away from the exhaust pointed at a 45 degree laterally (mic is to the right of the exhaust), and 8" off the ground. For the '04 Evo, dB is measured at 4650 RPM. I drove into the shop wearing the silencer but there are no 2005 specs so I could not be tested.
If correctable, then you need to get that sucker off to have the cops sign it off. I would rather have it noncorrectable and decibel rated so that if i pass, I can certified keep it on. So the next time a popo pulls me over, i would hand them the ref's cerificate and prove that I have a legal exhaust.
nah what i meant was when he goes back to see a cop to sign off the ticket for the exhaust. and the cop might get a dirty idea of looking more into the car and decides to write him a ticket to see a ref station.

And just to throw a word of caution out there: California cops ARE being trained to recognize modifications to "imports" (I'm using that term loosely) that violate a statute. We spent half a day discussing it in the Police Academy, so all the rookies are getting this information. What's more, CHP has started training classes for these violations, and I know of at least a dozen cops from other jurisdictions who've gone through and started making stops based on that information (whether there is in fact a violation or not).
Finally, yes, anything that vents to atmosphere wouldn't be kosher under CA law.
I got the correctable ticket.
Does it mean I have to go competely stock and go to CHP? can I just go to referee and have a certificate and show that to CHP?
So, the silencer works out okay for the test?
Wow, I am learning a lot here.
And Yes, my TBE is really loud.

you cant just go to a referee unless you got a ref ticket from a cop but im not sure how else can you go to a ref w/o the ticket part.as for the silencer part it worked for my sister since she had the helix tbe also so i told her to put the silencer back on and the cop wrote it off.
One other thing you can do...the cops have to be ASE certified technicians (the EPA police, not the regulars) and if they suspect anything under the hood, they have the right to tear the engine apart right there. I have family in Cali and they said they have seem officers stop cars on the side of the road and do it.
