Cali street racing=good bye car?

My friend told me that with the new street racing law in cali if you get caught street racing they can impound your car and sell it. This sounds like bs so if i buy a 90000 dollar car and go out racing they can impound it and sell it? so i would lose 90000 dollars? this sounds like bs does anyone know about the new law?

It sounds about right to me. Alot of places have similar laws regarding DWI. You get busted- they take your car away and sell it! I know there's a lawsuit in the New York State supreme court dealing w/the legality of such a law, but I doesn't look like they're going to change it.

Completely unconstitutional. How that hasn't been repealed is beyond me.

i know they can sieze your car or house if you are selling drugs. I imagine this prolly falls under the same sort of thing, i agree though its complete BS. Make it an exorbatent fine and suspend your license or whatever...but taking someones car is a little bit much. Plus I know a guy who got scooped up for racing and he was just a stop light and the dude next to him was revving his engine wanting to race, the light turned green and my buddy just drove normal off the line while the other dude did a crazy burnout launch. Cop pulled both of em over and cited them both for street racing and my boy did nothing but mind his own buisness. I think I would flip the F**K out if i had my car impounded and sold over somthing stupid like that. I mean at that point it gonna be your word against the cop...you could totally get screwed and the state makes a buttload of money off you...welcome to the united socialist state of california. BUH!

I think it's in NC too. However, not heavily enforced.

i think in the first offence its ticket and 30 day impound and you walk your *** home........2nd go to jail dont collect 200 dollers and bye bye car.....so if you race it make sure the car isnt in your name that way you can say you took it and raced it and the person whome the name its under can get it back for u..

I believe the law only applies to "organized" street racing. That is what they are really trying to crack down on. If you are "racing" a friend on the highway, it would be awfully hard to prove that you were in fact racing, not just driving fast. Not a big worry for me, I actually appreciate the law.

I don't think anyone is going to try to repeal this law either, so its here to stay. Avoid the street racing scene and you should be A-Ok.

STREET RACING IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH!
i think they are trying ot get you guys to stop doing it
so maybe if they threaten or take away your cars you wont do it
damn arent there alot of tracks out in cali anyway? why dont you guys just go to them?

I think that Fast and Furious and 2F2F have done more to hurt modified cars than could have possibly been imagined. Now we have some conservative law makers really going ballistic if they are wanting to take your car. And by the way, it is uncostitutional and if it goes to the federal Supreme Court it will be appealed.

Please explain how this law is unconstitutional. I can understand the reasoning quite well, people are consistently engaging in an activity that puts their life and many spectators lives at risk. Like I said earlier, I think the law is good. It will hopefully lower insurance rates, reduce loss of life by stupid racers, and give cops one more fun thing to do with their late hour shifts.

Seriously organized street racing is a stupid thing. If you want to drag race, go to a track, if you want to bet on races, do it there. I would prefer the people that are into street racing not having cars.
