I have been trying to explain to these gentlemen for some time just how primative and old school the SAFC is

its been rather frustrating

If I ever make it out that way maybe we can do a joint discussion and talk on the matter at your shop

Great idea Al!!!!!!!!!!!!!I think of opening a collage like efi 101.Some of this is very hard to understand but I have had good luck explaining it in person or on the phone. On the net. it's very hard.Good luck all tuner's.

Thank's HPH

he is trying to make the point that the SAFC when used in conjunction with the stock ecu is not an ideal tuning tool as the stock ecu makes changes in long term fuel correction trims which "re-learn" the SAFC settings - of course this only applies to closed loop areas but is still a significant hurdle

Of course the largest issue is the unitended effect on ignition timing that reducing the maf signal percentage has in an evo ecu

The result - aprticularly on 91 octane pump gas - is that the ecu pulls massive amounts of timing due to knock and you wind up making very low tq figures and having a rough power band

Add in the fact that the stock ecu has actualy two main fuels maps which differ and the SAFC has only one setting at a time and you start to realize that its a fairly poor tool to use to tune an evo

It is hard to explain over the net - it would be fun to have small seminar

I dont care which tuner they use as long as I can some how dispell the concept that they have adopted that the safc is the best tuning tool

I feel like someone trying to argue that the earth is round with people who swear its flat

thanks for reiterating what ive been tring to say for years.the safc is old tech and went out with my turbo crx.6 years ago. all i have to say is that unit only modifys one signal.why would you spend $250 on it when you can get a used emangae for $300 or a new one for $500.not olny does it adjust signals better and more precisly it does more of them and spark too.which is where alot of our power is made. emanage isnt the only one but it is a good example of my point.spark is just as important as fuel adjustments.and to use old tech like that will produce gains but for the cost you might as well pay the little extra to get more per dollar.the only situation i see a safc fit for is after getting flashed with better map is to change fuel curves for higher octane gas for racing on higher boost settings.this is my humble opinion. sorry for hating anybody who swear by safc.

Dude I haven't read anywhere where anyone here has said the safc is the best tuning tool. I myself have posted that we have seen way more results with that then any flash. But never have I said it's the best tool. Me personally I'm saying to hell with flashing and just going ems.
