so the possibility is high ill be getting stationed in Nellis next. id like to ask a couple questions.

is it better to live on base or off?
is it a high tempo base? ie lots of exercises?
is crime that bad?

im looking foward to it. it can be 150 degrees and ill be outside soaking it in! i miss hot weather so much, you have no idea! thanks guys

I perfer to live off base. The housing market sucks right now, basically it's a buyers market. Get in a house if you can. Try newer developments. They have killer deals. On guy in my last shop got $50,000 off and about $20,000 in free options.

Nellis is very high ops tempo. All the fighters jets in the Air Force inventory are there. Red Flag exercises are crazy. We'll either have the Aussies, Brits, Saudis, etc, training that week with our AF pilots. Plus you got the UAVs and the F35 showing up over there.

Crime. North Las Vegas has the highest crime rate, which just happens to be where the base is located. There are lot of nice places in Vegas but you just have to feel them out for yourself. Vegas is funny. They will build new homes that people will jump on, then two years late a Walmart springs up, low incoming apartments and section 8. Then the neighborhood goes to s hit. Find a place thats established.

Eddie and I are CE, so we hated life at Nellis. Vegas is awesome but Nellis is blah. I don't know how the other squadrons are so I can't say much about them.
