Evo X Flash or Tune options in CA
Evo X Flash or Tune options in CA
Hi Everyone,
I've searched & read threads regarding flash & tune options for the X. I just got my X recently and now am already wondering what to do next. Being a frugal noob , I'd like to narrow my criteria (according to rank):
1.) yields better MPG
2.) yields modest HP gain
3.) smoother engine response
4.) very reasonable cost (most bang-for-your buck)
Since I am not comfortable about mailing in my ECU, I'd like to confine my options to tuners/shops in Central CA or the Bay Area. What would you recommend... a flash, a tune, 3rd-party air filters, or a combination of all? and with who/where?
So far, I've read about the Works Eco flash for the X, but no real customer feedback/reviews showing actual data on MPG gains. Also there was a good review for the P2 flash/tune, but it's kinda costly. DGmotors seems to have a great deal on the ECUflash tune for the X, but they are in the East Coast :-(
Discuss :-)

Ecuflash is what I'm going with at the end of this month. If your not changing fuel maps often it's a good option for your buck. I've had great past experiences with GST a while back, and thats where im heading back to this month. Check them out they do some good work, and theyre located in the bay area.

The X will be my DD... am regularly light on the right foot, but sometimes I want to push it a little bit for a spirited drive and around corners. I'm not sure how the change in fuel maps work :-( does it dynamically change depending on what RPM the car is at? I would just like to optimize the X's fuel economy and engine performance at the same time since a lot are saying that the factory tune is really on the rich side. Lean and max efficiency across the powerband is my goal.
Check out GST though they do some good work.
Cool, let me know how it works out for you. I was just reading about reflashing and TSBs on the EvoX FAQ section. Says there that the latest factory ECU software has really improved fuel economy, engine response, & idling issues (although I'm not experiencing that yet). Maybe I should check into that first, although not sure yet if my VIN is eligible for the upgrade.
