At least get some all-seasons.

Winter tires are expensive. But they are worth it if you go boarding/skiing alot. Your best bet are Dunlop M2/M3's. They are also good for tarmac, but not as well as a summer tire.

i hear if you try to drive in the snow with the stock tires, very bad things happen. ..... probably want to invest in some other tires.

i'm kind of having the same dilemna... i was thinking of buying a set of stock wheels and slapping on some winter tires... then i'm looking at my stock tires on my car and seeing that they only have another 3-4k miles on them...

In any case it's a thousand dollars to make your car run in the snow. Kind of pricy but better than getting stuk in a blizzard with performance tires.

Also Mitsubishi claims that you cannot install chains on the front tires.

I wondered the same thing. I re-read the manual and it said that you should not put chains on the front wheels. Reason? The chains won't clear the bodywork, at least not when the wheels are turned.

Sucks. I'm planning on driving to Big Bear in a couple weeks and I'm trying to figure a way around this. The roads should be clear, but if not......

i think if you know someone with an SUV, you are better going with them.

You figure it's going to cost you $1200 for wheels and tires plus another $500 for the rack....

So $1700 just to go up to Tahoe? Might as well rent an SUV for $30 a day....
