You can go to bellhelmets.com

bell helmets may cost a bit more than others ~250 and up to 1000, but like others have told me when i was searching for a deal, how much is your head really worth? you can get away sometimes with motorcycle helmets, but usually they will check.

You can also ask them about pyrotect helmets. They are manufactured by Bell, and other than the vents, are identical but about 40 bucks less.

by the way, they are located in Costa Mesa, so you can prob. pick up and avoid shipping. Pay cash and avoid tax too.

I have a Bell M3 Kevlar - it's great, but a little expensive. I figured I would buy a good helmet now so I wouldn't need to get a better one later.

Do you guys recommend open-face or full-face for track days?

The ratings of most motorcycle helmets don't comply with SCCA or NHRA regulations. However, I've never had a problem at the drag strip with my motorcycle helmet, but the SCCA officials do tend to check.

To do track events you must have an SA95 (good until 2005) or an SA2000 (good until 2010). I have a Bell Sport III SA2000 that I got for around $250 online during a sale. It’s regularly priced at $300. I would definitely recommend a full face. All I'm going to say about that is “Dale Earnhardt”.
