A smirk from an Evo Driver?
Driving my '91 M5 on 85 North in Cupertino on Saturday. I was stuck behind traffic which was blocking the fast lane (as usual). I noticed an Evo get on the freeway and thought, haven't seen too many. (I instructed a student at Sears Point in one last year and was very impressed). He was eventually behind me in the left lane as we waited for a hole to open open up. Eventually there was a way around and I accelerated without downshifting to get around the traffic. I think I may have just got to 100mph before I moved back left. He followed. Again, we came up on a pack of cars and I slowed to 80 or so. I had to exit at 280 north and moved over one lane. He came up along side and I looked over to make eye contact, intending a thumbs up. Instead he looked at me out of the corner of his eye and smirked. Not too cool. I have no idea if this guy knows anything about the '91 M5 and it might be quite up to an Evo but it ain't slow. I am seriously considering buying an Evo or similar car for a track car. I wouldn 't touch it other than better pads. Keep the warranty intact and turn it in after three years.
Man Kevin sorry to here he acted like that not all of us Evo owners are like him. If he was a true car nut he would have given your M5 a little more respect. Maybe he thought you where trying to race him or something. Best of luck hope you get on the Evo bandwaggon.
That EVO guy is just being a as*. MMC cant stop ppl like these from buying their cars... any driver with a respectable knowledge of cars would know the M5 is a master in its own league... I wouldve gotten one if it were so damn expensive here. Cheers..
The new M5 is way faster but, as all newer cars, has lost some of the soul. They said the same thing about my car vs. the '88 M5. The thing I liked most when reading about the Evo was how much fun it was to drive. That is why driving is fun. Straightline power is only a tiny bit of what makes driving fun.

you nailed it, tho'...if pure hooked-up driving fun is what you want out of a car, the Evo is hard to beat....it's a go-kart with 4-doors a roof and a trunk!....and contrary to "popular opinion," I can state from personal experience that it makes a great 2-person 2-lane x-country mileage-mangler as well....
buy one, you'll be glad you did...

While I admit the guy in the Evo was probably a dick, there's NO comparison to how many smirks/rolled eyes/etc. I get from BMW drivers. I'm sure you don't do it, but many of your brethren do.
i kinda agree with chris on this one since a lot of the bmw guys that i see either try to race while the kids are with me. but i did met a few good guys who gave props even from an e46 mr owner so i its just there's always a bad apple in the group.
but ive gotten the evil eye from other evo owners thinking they're a better person because of their evo.

What color Evo was it? I live in Cupertino and while I see M series BMWs all the time, I never do any kind of street racing and would never mess with an M3 or M5 on the straights. But, then again, I wasn't even in town on Saturday. That gets me off the hook.
It was red. It was definitely a "your not worthy" smirk. I might expect that from the thousands of BMW owners out there but I would think an Evo owner would be a bit more knowledgeable.
I usually don't look at other drivers that appear like they want to race me since I am not much into street racing. But I wouldn't give a smirk to any M3 or M5 driver. I know I've done it to many civics since I think most would be just wasting my gas. Anyway, I too love the M3 and M5. I love my EVO but honestly I would rather have an M3 or even better M5. Just "MY" own opinion.
