wtf? Ticket for exhaust!
wtf is this?
Hey guys, I dont know if this is the right forum to post this in, but please bare with me, saturday night I was driving and a cop pulls me over and hes like I pulled you over cuz we heard your exhaust, and your not supposed to have an aftermarket exhaust on your car, so he gave me a fixer ticket for that sh**, now my question is, is having an aftermarket exhaust really illegal or were they just tryin to f*** with me?
yeah about 5-6 years ago the chicago area cops were really **** about that stuff. these days they dont care. it all depends on what area you live in. but YES they can give you a ticket for it. sucks but yeah unfortunately. good luck.

well i work at a bowling alley, and theres a cool cop that is always there to 'supervise' the stupid bastard kids and ****, anyways, he said that any exhaust that is louder than stock is illegal....
ALSO my friend got pulled over right outside the parking lot for work(we both work at the bowling alley) and the cop says "im gonna give u a warning for ur exhaust, next time its a ticket" and my friend goes "how long til i get the ticket?" and he goes "til u exit the parking lot" and walked away...
how much B.S. is that?
to end the story...my friend went to work at 5pm when he got pulled over, and it was a saturday night and we don't get out of there til 3am...but we noticed the cop in the parking lot for a good hour or two than he left.

The db and exhaust level is different depending on where you live. The first thing to do is go to the DMV and ask where you can find the information on legal db levels for an automobile stereo or exhaust. I did this and the DMV explained that in our county it is completely subjective, which means a cop can ticket you for it if he feels like it or not. I then called up DC Sports (this happened with my Civic) and they sent me all the testing information about the exuast I bought, which stated it was at 96db I think. In the end I sold the exhaust and bought an Apexi World Sport which was much more quiet and got out of the ticket.
In short, find out the legal limits and the procedure an officer must go through in order to ticket you.

It is bull**** though because Harley's are loud as hell and they don't get pulled over ever.
I think he's saying it's bull**** that the cops don't like import cars that sound like domestics.
Side note: I really don't like Harley drivers. Since there are only 2 lanes on the highway in Denton, they think that they can go the same speed in the left lane that the person in the right lane is going. Then they get pissed when you try to pass them.....It doesn't help they're all baby boomers now! Grrr...sorry Nasdale.

My understanding is that as long as it doesn't alter any emissions devices (meaning your cats are still there) and it complies with the noise regulation (pretty sure it's 90db here in Cali) you're fine. I'd fight the ticket asking why the cop didn't use a decibal meter.
And you got the right forum, just try to post a defining title next time. Thanks
