As cited from http://www.ncsl.org/programs/esnr/radar.htm

"Radar detectors are banned in all vehicles in Virginia and the District of Columbia and in big trucks in New York and Illinois. However, they are allowed in noncommercial vehicles in the other 49 states besides Virginia. State legislatures for the most part have been unwilling to ban detectors. According to the Radio Association Defending Airwave Rights (RADAR), more than 110 attempts to ban radar detectors in 33 states have been defeated in recent years."

So unless you are driving a tractor trailer truck through AZ, it is legal to use a radar detector.

SC~

Anything that alters or scrambles the radar or laser is not legal. Radar and laser detectors are legal but that is as far as they can go, "to detect". When you start to scramble or in other words make your car invisible you are now in violation of title 28.

Just a side note.. It would be hard for a cop to determine if the radar or laser is being scrambled or altered unless they know the unit does it.
