Drove an Evo X MR today at palm springs Mitsubishi. Not bad I must say. The sst is a little slow to react though... Kinda disappointing. And we all know the trunk sucks. Also drove an '09 WRX and wow. I'll write more about em tomorrow at work, I'm sure.

Well, I drove a X GSR awhile back, but I was gentle with it, so I didn't get a feel for much besides the handling (which was amazing, btw, for a big ol ugly sedan). The guy was all too eager to let us test drive one of the two MRs that they had at Wiley Mitsubishi Palm Springs (They had an RA too, btw, looked pretty nice, if you like the new Lancer looks [clearly I don't]). So I took a silver MR out on the roads there, plenty of twisty parts and lots of room for acceleration. The SST shifts super smooth, but is a tad bit slow to respond (I had to shift at about 6500 to get it to go by redline, otherwise it would hit the rev limiter for a second). I got on it plenty of times to feel the power too, feels slower than the old ones, but not as much as I thought, was also really pretty smooth but still threw ya back in the seat when boost kicked on hard. Downshifting worked really well as well, and it blipped the throttle just about perfectly for you, the car didn't jerk much even when downshifting at racing speeds (you know, like heel-toeing).

Anyway, wonderful car as far as driving feel and interior felt. And putting it in full-D it worked like a nice little grocery getter sedan, shifting into 6th most of the time to save gas, unless I switched it into sport mode, which also worked really well. I'm really pretty impressed by the system. Still not as nice as the BMW 335 sport shifter system IMO, but really nice. No wonder people are buying the MRs.

I took a few pictures of me next to it, but I'll have to upload them later.

It was fully loaded too, so the Rockford Fosgate system and the navi, didn't mess with the navi but the stereo sounded pretty good as well. As we all know who've looked at them the interior is a million times better than the 8s and the noise/ride quality is way better than all the 8s and 9s I've been in/driven, including ones that are at stock ride height.

All-in-all, not a bad car, and I definitely see why people are getting them... The looks are growing on me a little, but I still hate the red tail lights (easy to replace with the black RAs though) and the trunk space is AWFUL (but who cares about that, not me). Once they fix the tranny cooling issue the MR will be a nice choice available. S-AWC is amazing, ps. Oh, and don't buy a silver fully loaded MR from the dealer, I'm sure it is hammered backwards and forwards, it was by me Thank God for the warranty, which brings me to the other reason I'd probably take a lot of convincing to buy a X...

As for the WRX, they only had one STi and weren't letting people test drive it at all. No big deal, we have tons here, I bet I can convince someone to let me test it. But they did have a demo '09 WRX... Let me say, for 26k, that car is a machine. With the things I was doing (so not 10/10, but pushing both cars pretty hard) it felt just as fast as the Evo. I'm sure it is no where near as capable, especially with the tires it had compared to the Evo's... But it was still quick, and still handled amazingly. Not to mention the super sharp turning radius. For 4-8k less, plus 0.1s 0-60 slower than the STi, it isn't that bad of a choice.

I decided I'm gonna look around and see what I can get into/out of with the Porsche. Lowering debt right now would be great, not to mention getting 0% interest instead of 6.25%. Plus, it is year end... Who knows, we'll see, I'll miss the Porsche, but it'll be nice to have a warranty (or "warranty") and smaller payments, and a newer car that's less expensive to maintain. Sure, regular maintenance isn't much more, tires are maybe a bit more, brakes were actually cheaper but if something should break on the car.... I've already spent ~2000 fixing smaller things that have gone bad.

The sti has one major flaw. IT"S UGLY AS HELL!!!!!!!!! Other than that, it's a nice ride. The X isn't much better but atleast it's not a hatch (or booger car as my wife calls them). If you are into that, cool. I'm not.

I've always loved hatches/"wagons"/5-doors as long as they are designed to look alright (Not like the Evo Sportback, etc, bleh) even before I was that into cars. Renault Clio Sport... I definitely understand how people don't like the looks of them though, even you Chuck And compared to the sedan version of the WRX and the Evo X, the new Subaru wagons look great to me!
