The Cruise will start at 1:00pm at the Brighton Ski Resort parking lot,
and will go from there down Big Cottonwood Canyon and on to I215.
From I215 we go up I80 to East canyon.

I am sure that it depends on what you consider "racing". Real racing, door-to-door in some sort of series or class based group will require alot more than just a roll bar! That's racing.
Lapping days, and open tracking is what I think we are all looking to do. That usally doesn't require a cage. If car club lapping days and open track requires a cage that is THE SUCK.

For High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) events the safety restrictions tend to be very loose. I have pics of a guy running in convertable C5 corvette at the Cal Speedway Roval course (very high speed track because the roval is part of the long oval track that Nascar and other events run on) with no rollover protection at all.
A good ol' boxy sedan like the Evo ... I doubt there will be ANY HPDE event that you can't run in as is. Want to do wheel-to-wheel sanctioned racing? You'll almost certainly need a cage.
