You should just go with the HKS Kansai final drive unit. It would change the ratio on all of the gears and give you a much more useable tranny, not only for drag racing, but for everyday driving as well. That's what I would do.

Just wondering; how the hell did he screw up the install bad enough to ruin the trans, and transfer case??? That install is not that hard!!!!!!

That's exactly why NOBODY works on my car but me.

Dear Ben,

I guess the red lotus driver was standing next to Jason when I ran my 56, he responded with a "crap". Jason said why are you worried you are still 2/10th faster than him? Red lotus guy said, "no I cut a corner on my fastest lap." SO SHUT IT.

Dear Seth,

You cannot change gears. I also wonder how they screwed up your clutch install. Seems like clutches are either correct or incorrect, and you would know the day it was installed. Are you sure the problem wasn't you launching too hard with an aggressive clutch?

So I was able to cut through the chicane right through the gravel pit so I could cut a 58

Yeah... me too Oh wait, you're going on street tires that can handle a track filled with rain, nevermind... Spinning out in the S2000 is scary enough, spinning out in the Evo was REALLY scary... damn rain.

And way to go Jared!! I won't say anything jerky and sarcastic like you guys say to me when I do things like that

sorry to be dense but what is final drive?

i'll give you the big screwups and leave the rest out.
he had one of the discs on the excedy turned around backwards and going into gear was a little notchy at times. that was the only indication that something was wrong.

the transfer-case had almost no fluid in it. it did not break; it wore out. the ring and pinion is shot. the tranny was swimming in fluid. i really can't figure out how he managed to over fill the tranny. that would be difficult. there is more wrong with the tranny but i can't remember the details. some bad stuff happened when the ring and pinion went.
i just found out about that on saturday. i'll know more when i go to the shop tomorrow.

there are a few other things that would blow your mind but those were the big things.

he's in trouble. i've already talked to an attorney.

Here you go Seth.

http://www.gruppe-s.com/Evo/evotrn.htm

It looks like it may not work with the 6-speed, you may try calling gruppe-s to see if it will or not.

this may be a can of worms. the galant final drive had the same 4.111 gear ratio. that and they fit perfectly into the evo 8. i do not know about the MR.

even if i did it would it be a good thing...?
what would happen

seth if you ever go to a big turbo a little longer gears are better for your turbo's powerband.. the mr gears are good for road course but i personally would stick with your stock tranny & just have shepard build it.. the tranny stuff rob likes to look @ is for the ballers..lol it's sweet but $$$$ did the guy that put your clutch in do it on his own time??? if so you will have a hard time getting money from that one. i don't know how you put the disks backwards they have really good marks on how they go in?????

i know, it's kind of amazing to me too.
he did it during his normal work hours under the table, i dropped the car off at mitsu and picked it up from mitsu. i am just documenting everything.
if he doesn't take care of it he is fired for sure and i will sue him in small claims court and lein his house.
i may be able to include mitsu in the case, not sure at this point.

i think there are big advantages to both trannies.
i got a screaming deal on the MR tranny and i don't have to wait.

rob
crap i've been digging into this stuff for the last 3 hours. TRE is fixing my t-case so i have already talked to jon. no one seems to have a modded final drive for the MR yet. that would be very cool though.

Yeah, I would agree, a modded final drive in a six speed would be the ****. The Hks final drive is the same thing as the galant final drive which can be bought from Mitsu for about $300 (or so my sources tell me) I'd like to do it to my car, but it's not just the cost of the drive you have to worry about, it's the cost of the rebuild as well. You have to completely dis-assemble the tranny to put the final drive, speed sensor etc. in. I think if you send Shep an email asking if it's possible he'll email you back with an answer and a price within a day or so.

who is shep
contact info please?

the final drive from galant and hks will not work in the MR tranny.

tre will have a final drive for the MR in the fall.

their ratio for the five speed is like 3.87 or something. it's crazy.
