I don't doubt the power gains of the WORKS flash. I'm just wondering how safe it is. I'm used to having an EGT gauge, datalogger, and knock indicator that tells me to let off the gas if something's not right. If the P2 flash comes w/ some sort of knock indicator, I'd be sold. Hmmmm...

I'm pretty sure the P2 flash uses the stock knock sensor set at stock sensitivity settings and will retard timing as needed.

The situation I'm worried about is if I get some bad gas and it detonates a lot. I would like to know if the ECU is retarding timing by more than 3 degrees so I'll know to stop romping on the gas and damaging the motor. If the ECU can flash the CEL or some other light to indicate knock, I'd be sold on the P2.

I really don't want to buy an EGT gauge cuz I don't want to drill and tap my exhaust manifold and heat shield. To me it's not as clean looking. Also, the EGT probes are prone to failure after 25-30k miles. My greddy EGT probe failed and went through my turbo on my 1g after about 30k miles.

Its my understanding that the P2 flash is just as efficient at protecting our motors as the stock ecu - is this correct, Jamie?

WORKS offers a factory matched 3 year warranty on all of they're non-WRP producrts, so I believe this extends to the P2 flash as well. Jaime can correct me if I am wrong.

Yes David, you are correct. Our Brain Flash provides all the same safety features that the original ECU does. If for some reason knock is detected, the ECU will still pull timing back to keep the internals from being damaged. WORKS did not engineer the tune to be on the ragged edge. Safety and reliability were still just as much a priority as overall power and torque gains.

So will the ECU cut boost if retarding timing isn't enough to counter detonation?

Sorta The ECU will use an enrichening map that dumps extra fuel in if timing can't be retarded back enough. Also, the boost/fuel cut parameters are still in place with the WORKS P2 which will trigger if the MAS is picking up too high of a reading (for instance, if your line to the wastegate happens to fall off).

Okay, I got my appointment scheduled for tomorrow to get my car P2 flashed! I have one last question.

Two mods I am really considering in the future are the EVO 6.5 10.5t TME titanium turbo and the Helix intercooler pipes. Do you guys have maps for these mods?
