san rafael vs the rest

i live in hayward and the closest dealership is hayward mitsu. i've gone there a few times for service and for the recall issues and although my car seems to be fine when i get it back, one of the guys that works behind the counter in service is a real a...hole.

i've heard great things about san rafael but not sure how i can justify driving there every time seeing as they're closed on saturdays and i live in hayward, work in sf. do any of you guys know of any other decent mitsu dealerships closer to me? otherwise, i guess i'll make the trek to san rafael?

I live in Texas so I have never been to San Rafel MItsubishi, but I have ordered a lot of parts from them and their parts dept guys are great. I sure would not mind them being here in Dallas, they would be the only guys I went to..

oil change intervals

btw i got my first oil change just under 5k miles.....now 2k miles later the service guy's saying my oil is black and need of change. i do not run my evo hard, at least i don't think i do. the manual says 5k between oil changes but san rafael recommends 2.5k miles. what do y'all do?

All depends on how you drive. If you drive hard and lots of stop and go traffic, you'll need to do 3K oil change for best oil protection.

Motor oils need to reach certain temp to burn off contaminates. That's why short drives to work and stop and go traffic is bad for the oil.
But, if you track race your Evo, you should change the oil more often.

The manual has a "severe use" maintenance schedule that has oil changes every 3k or so.

Standard Service intervals are at 5000 miles and Severe Service intervals are at 3750 miles for oil changes in Mitsubishi's literature.

Hey, I can tell you one thing. San Rafeal doesn't have markup on the new Evo MRs. That's where I actually plan to buy my car. If the guy calls me back today I probably can get down there on Friday. Here's hoping.

if u think 3k oil change is the best and not overkill, then you are inhaling the BS that the oil companies are stuffing down up our ***... i would do 3k oil change if i was living in a dusty area or i hit the track once a month.....

I agree. Just because the oil is black doesn't necessarily means that it's time to change. That's one purpose of what the oil does is clean the engine. Anything bigger will be filtered by the oil filter. Go by what the manual recommends.

Last time I checked, oil companies don't write car manuals. Every car manuals that I've read says oil change should be done 3K-7K miles depending on driving conditions. Ferrari is the worst when it comes to oil change but if you could afford one than it's not too bad I guess. Oil is the life blood of your engine.

Do what you feel is best for your needs. Obiviously new oil is better than an oil that's been driven for 3k miles.
I personally change my oil every 7k miles. For two reasons, I'm lazy even though it takes me 15min to change my oil and I don't drive my car for short distances which reduces contaminate build-up. Plus it's synthetic oil and it should last long IMO.

I even changed my tranny fluid twice with Redline MT90, transfer case three times with Mobil synthetic, and the rear diff twice with Mobil with only 23k miles on my car up to date. Is it too much? I don't think so but I did learn that the rear diff fluid was the cleanest so it doesn't need to be changed as often but the transfer case which only hold .5 QT should be changed sooner since second time around it still had metal shavings on the magnet bolt.

Just my .02 cents

Yep, that's why I bought my Evo from them last year. The other dealership closer to where I live wanted $3K more than MSRP and they only had Red.
Although every dealership only had 1 or 2 Evo's on the lot at any given time, San Rafael Mitsu never added mark-up to their cars.

Good luck with your MR..

i'm in san leandro and i drive to san rafael mitsu... they're the best... i got my MR there for msrp w/o having to sign any contracts or put down any deposit (and got excellent financing deal)... other dealerships didn't even know an MR was coming or if they did, they didn't seem very interested in making a sale... san rafael mitsu just got me all the MR service manuals... i had called veracom and hayward and was told to just buy the 04 manuals since "they're all the same" and since they had no idea when the 05 manuals would be available... san rafael mitsu staff is professional and courteous and eager to help... AND i'm not getting a dime for this endorsement...

WORKS oil changes include OEM filter, crush ring and we stock both Mobil 1 and Redline for the refill. You are also welcome to provide a fluid/filter of your choice. Prices will vary based on these options, but we provide a significant savings versus going to the dealer. Please give us a call if you'd like to set up an appointment or discuss things further
