P2 Boost

Is it possible for WORKS to tweak the P2 to run at a higher boost level?

You guys can do that? I thought 19-20psi was the max you could do without getting a boost controller. If you guys can program the car to run higher boost like 21 or 22, what mods do you suggest to go along with this? Fuel pump? Injectors?

Also bump for the drop in air filter

James-

I’ve asked WORKS to make a couple changes in our P2 set-up for racing purposes only, stay tuned.

Using the stock boost solenoid (which we have complete control of through the factory ecu) we can pretty much do whatever you want in terms of boost curves, peaks, you name it.

We don't really like running to much higher boost than say 20-21 because of the increasing chances of detonation on crappy 91 octanes. With race gas or water injection then higher boost is much safer and will make good power.

However, in my opinion you should try and get the most power out of your current safe boost level rather than just turning up the boost. It may take more time, effort, money, and engineering to do it on stock boost levels, but the advantages out weigh any drawbacks. A motor making 340crank at 20lbs is under a LOT less stress and will likely outlast a motor making 340crank 25lbs, not to mention it will be quite a bit faster!

Word.

My theory of tuning has been to first maximize airflow efficiency into and out of the engine (through the turbo also) because it's always a good foundation for other mods and helps the motor make more power without adding any stress.

Actually we have total confidence in a combination of WORKS water injection, slightly higher boost level backed with a premium gas/ race gas mix being something the 4g will take in stride with no problems.

I’ll even go so far to say that I feel this is something that could be offered through the WRP system and would be well received by not only existing P2 users but plenty of others that are thinking about ECU based control. Could be offered as a performance P2 upgrade for Rallyx, Autox, Trackers, Bracket racers.

The obvious beauty of such a combination is the fact that the entire package (and all related issues) are controled via the P2.
