Shouldn't be this hard...

There are a ton of us out there with '03 evo's that are unhappy with the ride quality. I have been *****ing about this for a year. There needs to be a way to either match an aftermarket spring to the stock KYB's (which I believe is hard because of the high speed damping of these shocks). I have tried Eibach springs and they were crapola. Much worse than stock. One of two things need to happen if I were Works...

1. Find a way to either acquire the exact model Bilstein's that the MR has (I have checked on this and from the stealer they are about $900.00 fronts and $1200.00 rears) they are not sold in the US through Bilstein, because they are a Euro/Asian model. This hardly makes sense given the price of various coilover set ups.

2. Find and sell a matched set of shocks and springs to duplicate the MR's ride exactly, probably too tough to do and still sell a package around $1000.00-1200.00.

3. I am not a suspension expert but it's obvious that Mits and Bilstein changed the low speed dampening to make the ride quality better and shave 2 seconds off of laps times!!

4. Works or someone needs to offer that type of performance in a package that is lowerpriced than say an average quality coilover set $2500.00?

Does that make sense? Is it possible? I have been asking for replies on the ride quality of your Ride springs when matched to the stock KYB's and I would bet a pay check or two they are either the same or worse than the stock setup...

Any real info would be appreciated........Thanks-

I have HEARD that Hotchkiss springs are really good. The spring rates are almost identical to stock, I haven't heard one complaint yet.

Without question the ride quality of their ride springs is worse than stock. I have the Works SS-1 handling package. The point of the ride springs is not to improve ride quality, however, but to improve handling.

Understood. However, I would question whether or not the Ride springs are an improvement over the stock springs as far as performance as well. Stiffer doesn't always mean faster especially when the quality of the road is bad. Track is one thing public roads are another. I find the problem is in the shock anyway. It the compression dampening that makes the stock shocks harsh not the springs anyway-

I agree that the stock dampers are not particularly good. While at Works a couple months ago they had a stock damper and an MR damper laying about and I pushed on both. Not only was the MR damper far softer, it had much less stiction.

If I'm going to go to the trouble of changing suspension I'd rather throw on a set of Ohlins and be done with it.

I recently switched from eibach prokits to the WORKS/Zeal Function V6s. Not only has the ride quality improved, but cornering stability over bumpy roads is also much improved.

While I was at works, I also pressed down on both the MR Bilsteins and the KYBs. HUGE difference between the two.

Mark, I think we can easily say I switched to <insert coilover brand here> and got a much better ride..

I will even include JIC's in this statement..

Our suspension program will be improving dramatically as our shock dyno nears completion this week. Not only can we test springs in-house but having a shock dyno in-house will give us more flexibility in terms of revalving the Bilsteins, Ohlins, etc. In a couple of months, we may be offering shock dyno services for race teams and the public.

I have some near-production versions of the MR ride springs on my Evo (w/ Bilstein shocks). The ride's a little stiffer than stock springs. The ride may be a bit stiffer than when I had the Tanabe GF210's (pretty close, so it's hard to say for sure.) Depending on what you're looking for, the ride's better than stock, as I feel the stock MR set up may feel too "disconnected" for some evo owners. I like the drop; looks good on the 17" BBS wheels and the rake is the same as stock. I haven't taken the car to a track or driven aggressively on the roads, but so far so good. If I get a chance, I can upload some pics for y'all.

Yes, they have springs available for both the stock RS/GSR suspension (the Konis) and also for the Bilsteins on the MR just recently.

You can check out the parts here.

If you look here : http://www.worksevo.com/store/produc...products_id=71

The MR Springs are an option in the pull down menu.
