How much do you think it'd cost to custom convert a regular USDM Evo into an FQ 400 minus the brakes and the accessories that make the car look unique? In other words, everything under the hood?

I don't know why people over here are so enamoured with the FQ400....maybe it's because their isn't a USDM version and it has a certain rarity value and cache.

If you search around on the UK's "Evo" website (www.lancerregister.com) for people who actually own one, many of them are having problems and are unhappy with the performance. There's also a very interesting & revealing performance comparison of the FQ400 and FQ340 and guess which one came out on top....it wasn't the FQ400.

Also, as previously stated the wheels are el-cheapo (relatively) TDR Pro Race 1 cast wheels (around 19.8 lbs for the 17x8" FQ400 wheels) which pale in comparison to the USDM "MR" BBS forged wheels (lighter and much higher quality).

Disregard razorlab's post. I have FQ-400 wheels for $1500. No, I did not get them from FrisbyTire for $784. Buy from me and save $900! :-X

actually the tdr wheels aren't that bad, and the only thing that makes the fq400 wheels special are the black mitsu center caps.

The only difference with the FQ400 wheels (over standard TDR Pro Race 1 "flat black" wheels) is that they're painted a gloss black colour......that's it.

Oh, and you will need a new set of lug nuts; the OEM ones won't fit. Also, they're not hubcentric but do come with a plastic centering ring.

If anyone's interested the Mitsubishi UK part number for the Mitsu logo center caps for these wheels is SR010245....don't know whether any US vendors are selling these.

abcdef,

basically the fq-400 is just like many of our cars under the hood, except they use THE MOST expensive parts to the get the job done i.e. the MOTEC ecu which costs somewhere around 10 g's. A big difference tho is the aftermarket pistons, rods, etc. This is something that most people don't do unless they have a HUGE turbo bolted on, and i mean like 600+whp. Other than that i believe the cams are even a set of HKS 264's. But to answer your question, to get the same results as an FQ-400 you dont have to spend what they did, you can do it for under 10K...WITHOUT a warranty

Vroompsh,

Thanks for you response. I mean it's just out of curiousity because can't the stock enternals already handle that kind of power? I also found the link that razorlab posted to be an interesting read. Does anybody here happen to know what kind of turbo is ran on the FQ-340? Alright this will be the last post that's off topic. Thanks.

I'm also curious to know about the wheels too that Jamie advertised to us. I think it's really cool and nice and definiately exclusive. But is there a difference to the ones that razorlab posted?

I was also wondering about the internals myself as I am currently trying to make my car silimar to the 340. Does mitsu know something we don't? As far as the turbo goes for the 340 it is the same one used on all evo's i think.

Yup, the 340 runs the OEM turbo.

It doesn't have many mods; remember, this is 340 crank hp, not whp, so it's only around 40 hp more than stock). I think they put on a different (HKS ?) exhaust, possibly an intake and do an ECU re-map. That's about it.

FYI.....in a similar vein, the FQ400 is 400 crank hp, not whp. On a Mustang load-bearing dyno, it would probably only register around 320 whp.
