Endless SSS-S brake pads question
Endless SSS-S brake pads question
Hi Kirk or others at Works,
I recently purchased a set of Endless SSS-S pads (front and rear), ATE Super Blue brake fluid, Mits brake cooling guides, and Works stainless steel brake lines from you guys. My goal was to significantly improve braking performance for track days.
I recently did a HPDE day at Thunderhill and the braking performance was WAY better than previous days I have done with the stock set up. The brake pedal stayed "high and hard" all day with zero fade.
Toward the end of the day, and after a completely wet session with rain falling the entire time, I noticed these faint bluish pad colored concentric rings (3 or 4, maybe 1/16 ior 1/8 inch wide) on both front rotors. Once the rotors cooled enough to touch, I could feel these as very slightly raised circles (pad transfer?) and not grooves. I went back out for my last session (now dry again) and did not notice any change in braking performance.
My 05 EVO is not my daily driver, but since the track day I have noticed that the rotors are fairly hot (more than warm) even after a street drive with little or light braking effort. Subjectively, the pads/brakes don't feel as "instantly reponsive" as when new and bedded in, but maybe I am just acclimated to the very different pedal feel from the stock set up by now.
I recall Kirk telling me he runs this pad at the track, so I was wondering if any of you guys have experienced what I described above. What about the possibility the pads are staying slightly in contact with the rotors since my track day? If so, would this likely be from pad material on the rotor or the pistons not retracting fully? From other searches, I read that I can remove the pad material with 120 grit sand paper. Would bleeding the fronts help with any of this?
Your thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Mark
