Works 70mm DP, ABM

Hey guys,

I would like to keep my EVO as quiet as possible, while making the most power possible. I know this is not an easy task, but would the addition of the Works 70mm Downpipe make my exhaust substantially louder with the ABM? As of now I am definately installing the muffler to my otherwise stock exhaust system. I have heard that the muffler is the main choke point of the IX MR's exhaust, so hopefully this will help things flow better while maintaining close to stock sound levels. Ideas?

Your downpipe choice won't affect how much noise you make...unless it's like the DC Sports one which eliminates the cat.

Even though its larger ID piping? I was also thinking about purchasing the Full-Race ProStock manifold.

I have the 70mm DP and Intermediate Pipe plus the ABM. I assume your talking about the "muffler" type and not the "pipe" type ABM. Either way, your car will not be much louder than stock. It will be a bit more deeper in tone @ idle and low revs, but it sounds GOOD. If your keeping your stock intermediate pipe you should have no worries with either type of ABM as the stock IP has resonators built into it.

They're both open pipes, no restrictions (for the DP), so only the tone will change, not the volume.

Ah, okay. Thanks for your help. To clear things up, I am talking about the Axle Back Muffler which Works offers. So I will probably end up with the 70mm Downpipe and the Axle Back Muffler. Hopefully, as you have said, the volume will remain the same. I don't mind having a deeper tone.

Do you have a sound clip, by any chance?

Unfortunately I don't. There may be a couple lurking somewhere in the Works forums. I can assure you though, the sound is nice and not too loud. I know that's a subjective stratement, but I didn't want a super loud exhaust on my car or a crummy exhaust note, so I really like what I got.

As mentioned, the Exhale DP should not affect the volume of the exhaust. It will improve airflow as the stock DP is rather restrictive in a few areas.

You also mentioned a tubular manifold. We have noticed increased noise (in the engine bay, not necessarily out of the exhaust) with some manifolds and O2 housings when switching from the OEM cast design to a tubular one. The cast iron helps absorb some sound (probably due to it's density). Switching to a thinner-walled piping may make sounds more apparent.

Ah, I see. Im not too worried about engine bay noise, but rather exhaust volume. I am very picky with that. Thanks a lot for your help Jamie. Once I have the money you can expect a big purchase from me. Works products =

EDIT: One more thing, I shouldn't have a problem with the CEL correct?

Correct, the WORKS Exhale DP maintains the "status quo." If you don't have any DTC being triggered now, there's no reason you'll have one with the DP.
