93 octane P2, initial observations
93 octane P2, initial observations
Just felt compelled to provide some feedback to people regarding the results of my 93 octane P2 upgrade. First let me say that the P2 packaging is top line as is usual for Works. The shipping turn-around, and attention to packing was excellent, and although the new P2 hose assembly is truly a custom piece, the look and feel is exactly like the OE part. The hose includes all of the right clamps and even the foam cover on the hose connecting to the factory boost controller (FBC) solenoid.
The install took about 20-25 minutes including re-installation of my ECU. Not exactly a tough install, but definitely requires good dexterity and the right tools(and a little patience!).
So far the 93 octane P2 has performed flawlessly. The first thing I noticed was that the P2, in a similar fashion to the P1, continues to deliver power in a very smooth and seamless fashion. Overall driveability is excellent, and standing start, or roll-on runs both result in great power delivery with no bogging or odd boost transitions...simply stated it just feels great! The P2 definitely has all of the positive attributes of the P1, with the added pull created by 19psi of boost held to redline. Very nice!!
Btw I am seeing a very slight boost spike to around 19.8-20 psi then dropping and holding at 19psi....just as Works had said it would perform!
The seamless nature of power delivery continues to provide useable power resulting in great control through the twisties. This useable power delivery makes for a nice package indeed, sort of like the stock delivery on major steroids! What a rush running through the corners!
As far as real-world power, I was driving down the interstate today and had a new silver Sti with two guys in it come zooming down the ramp, and up behind me.This kind of thing never happens, especially when you have an Evo with a newly tuned Ecu sporting higher boost levels. Well it was not really a race, but sort of like the Sti saying "I am going to run you down.... lets see if you can pull away!". I was cruising at about 50 and downshifted to 3rd and nailed it. The Sti followed-suit, hung for a moment until my boost built and then I walked away from him. I slowed and they passed giving me a thumbs-up!
Not bad for just an Exhale and the P2 Brain re-flash!
Can't wait to dyno the car next week, and also look forward to future additions such as the Aperture throttle-body.

nice review, i was thinking of other options i.e. reflashes, safc..but reviews like this, I can't help but pick Works as # 1 on my list. I'm not looking for the big numbers yet...something simple as a reflash and minor mods will do. And Work sseems to always have great customer service and product.
If you are like me, you want a decent baseline improvement that gives you an great edge over a lot of other cars, without compromising driveability. Continuing to appear stock certainly doesn't hurt either! Beyond that theres a lot more power to be had through other bolt-ons.

I think of the P1 or P2 as the foundation, and from there other options and upgrades provide future avenues for additional power gains.

even though I'm 24 pay for everything and give him xxxx amount of money a month to help out with bills. I'm still a stupid kid to him.
that's why i'm slow on getting the reflash
He doesn't even know it's a turbo car and gave me crap about the boost gauge
Thanks for the great write-up, N10S. Now that more and more people are getting the P2, I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's impressions.
I know when I first drove the shop Evo with it (not knowing beforehand that it had received the upgrade), I noticed the difference right away, even without looking at the boost gauge.
Also, as a $50 upgrade for current WORKS Brain Flash customers (and only $100 on top of the price of the Brain Flash for new customers), the P2 represents unbeatable bang-for-the-buck. The area under the curve fattens up significantly -- even more so than the peak numbers would lead one to believe -- and the extra pull by holding the 19 psi up top to nearly 8,000 rpm is a knock-out.
Have fun!

) bust his *** all his life for my family, so it's my turn to take care of him...but I still live under his roof so he gives me crap about modding my ride. The P2 will be stealth, but sitting on its *** for three days will be suspicion to him.

All joking aside it really did get better, and I am sure the leaner fuel maps were less impactful to the environment as well! Good luck with your situation and hope you get the P2 re-flash going soon, you won't be sorry trust me on this one !!!

N10S... I got the P2 and installed it on Thursday. It is exactly the way you describe it. The car just pulls pulls and pulls. My car is bone stock except for the P2 and I will be re dynoing the car this week and have them overlay my P1 dyno with the P2 dyno. I'm sure it will be a valuable piece of information to future customers of works and I can only hope that if posted WORKS can cut me a deal on a exhale

...so how is the fuel economy with the P2 so far? With my heavy foot, I only get 17-18 mpg city with the P1.

I will start to keep an eye on fuel usage during commute to see how well it does.N10S
248 miles running the P2 flash at which point the fuel light came on. I could have gone another 25 or so miles before getting scared i'd run out of gas. This was a mixture of city/hwy with several quick accelerations. I know this may not make sense, but I feel the P2 gets better gas mileage than the P1 from my observation.
