Question Couple of Sway Bar ?s

Can someone at WORKS tell us the percentage of stiffness (increase) in the three adjustments available on the rear bar? Also, what is the weight of the rear bar?

I’ve come down to two bars but need answers from WORKS on these two questions to make a final decision on which way to go.

Thanks
Rick

..actually I’ve asked for this information three times over the last month, twice on this forum and once on the phone but never got a call back. Everyone else I contacted answered my questions except WORKS, some within 15 minutes via e-mail!

I’m not going to lecture them on customer relations and communications, maybe we can do business next time around.

Sorry for the wait, but we've been in LA for the International Auto Salon and Buttonwillow at the Buttonwillow Raceway... with our swaybars

Here are the linear rear swaybar rates over stock at each end:

Soft: +20%
Mid: +35%
Stiff: +60%

Thanks a million Tyler, I really do appreciate those numbers…they may have saved your WORKS butt!

The hollow bar is trick but won’t yield the same levels of stiffness. On the street it may work well but the WORKS bar will yield 10% to 12% more stiffness than the hollow bar at each and every setting, not just the bar as a whole.

I’ll look at the numbers again; I don’t want to buy a too soft bar only to have to change again in a year or so down the road.

Well gents if anyone else is interested in suspension information these are the numbers on the WORKS rear sway bar and the Hotchkis (hollow) rear sway bar adjustment settings;

20% 35% 60% WORKS 24mm solid sway bar
10% 27% 47% Hotchkis 24mm hollow sway bar

At least there are two separate ranges, makes selection a little more interesting. Other things to consider, the hollow bar weighs some 30% less and is almost $100 cheaper (after tax, license and shipping). Back to the drawing board….

Rick

P.S. If you guys were just at the track did you have a chance to run at all with the 60% setting? I don’t know that I’d ever use that setting other than on something that had super elevated corners.

Well gents, we’re going with the hollow bar. I’ve used hollow bars in the past (including hollow torsion bars on dirt cars) and feel that the advantages in weight savings and being able to use the entire range of settings is a big plus.

Hollow bars have been around for awhile and seeing how WORKS is a forward looking tuner I’m actually surprised they went with the old solid bar technology.

We are constantly tracking on car and depending on the course we could even go a tad bit stiffer in the rear, during dry conditions.

Nice pun!

Let us know how you like the hollow bar if that's what you go with!

Part of the reason we decided to go the solid way, besides the superior stiffness of a solid bar, was the consideration of weight balance for the EVO. The weight distribution of the Evo is about 60/40 front. For pure handling function, it's better to have the little extra weight in the back with the slightly beefier WORKS Sway bar than the hollow bar available. Obviously lighter is better for acceleration.

In our opinion, the advantages of the WORKS Rear Sway bar out weigh the competitors.

I'd like to see grease fittings for the bushings.
By the way I recieved my croxx plate and clutch line and the parts look outstanding. Packing and instruction were the best I've seen from any vendor. Can't wait for P2 and throttle body.
