Rough idle when cold on E85: Please Help

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a little help here. I've spent a considerable amount of time researching this issue already but I haven't been able to find a definitive solution to my specific problem.

So here's the issue. I just purchased this 2004 Evo 8 that was e-tuned on Speed Density and E85. The guy I bought it from said that it started fine during the summer months, but now that it's getting colder the car turns over and fires right up but after idling for about 5-10 seconds, the AFRs start to go lean and the car dies. I can eventually get the car to idle OK after it warms up for a minute or two but I have to keep tapping the throttle whenever it starts to die in order to keep it running. I was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction of what tables I should be tweaking in order to correct this issue. The ROM is Tephra V7 94170715. Thank you all for your time and input.

I apologize in advance if there is a thread on this already and I've missed it. Please post it if you know where it is. Thanks!

Not enough cold enrichment.

The easiest way (but not necessarily the best) way to deal with it is probably to increase the minimum temperature for closed loop and then richen up the fuel map at idle. I assume you are running in closed loop to begin with.

It is running closed loop at start up. I'll give that a shot and see if it works. Thanks.

If you are running tephra V7, increase the values in the MAF Comp vs Coolant Temp #1 and #2 tables at the engine temperature you are logging. I found I had to increase values up to 30% before cold idle and driving on E85 was rich enough.

That's probably more like what I was looking for. Thanks!!

I got to play with the MAF Comp. vs Coolant Temp tables a little today and it definitely helped the problem. Thanks guys so much for pointing me in the right direction! The car will now idle without dying, but it still wants to die once I start driving for the first few minutes. I'll work on tweaking those tables a little more and hopefully that will get it straightened out the rest of way.

You could also check the min temp. for closed loop table to see what the coolant temp it is set to. I found setting this to 85 deg f works well for cold driveability.
