Yes it could but $8 and 15 minutes of work is nothing for me hell I spend more then $8 on lunch for work so to do it every 3000k miles is nothing and piece of mind there pretty much always good.
I could probably go 5k on them but what's the point in already under the hood when doing the oil

Copper or iridium, protruding tip or non protruding tip, heat range 7 or 8 in my car don't make a spit of difference I've tried them all. I change plugs out every few oil changes no matter what they are just for maintenance purposes. Always gapped to between .024-.026 and in 140k and 13yrs I have never had 1 spark related issue with the car. Stock coils or COP, 200-500+AWHP no difference, no issue to speak of ever.
Always used NGK plugs though BPR, BR 7/8 variants.

you said the plug lasted 300 miles, that same exact situation could have arisen with a copper plug or any spark plug...

People can do it however they want I just gave my opinion neither one is wrong he can do iridium plugs if he wants and be fine or go with copper plugs it doesn't really matter no way is the wrong way just my 2 cents
