Clunking noise when coming to a stop?
Hey everyone, seems like the EVO X has quite a bit of clunk noise problems. I did a search and couldn't really find anything.
So basically after driving my car for a while, when I come to a full stop at an intersection, about a second later I hear this strange clunk that seems to happen from the back. Weird thing is this only happens after I come to a full stop. And the other weird thing is, it's not like it happens all the time whenever I come to a stop. Seems to only happen when I've been driving without having to come to a stop for a while, then coming to a stop. For example, I was driving home from work today on the highway, (was probably on the highway for about 10 minutes or so, travelling around 110 km/h) and when I exitted off the highway, coming to a stop at the next intersection, I hear this weird clunk sound that happens about a second after I come to a complete stop. Anyone else have this happen to them, or know what may be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Not on a GSR like Rands has.
See if you can replicate it going over some really bumpy roads.
Is the body still kind of in motion when you hear the clunk? As in, you've stopped, but weight is now being transferred to the back of the car after the braking pushed it all forward?
It could be this, which seems to be pretty common on early '08s:

Hmm.. I've never noticed the sound during bumpy roads, I'll have to keep an ear out. But I don't hear the sound when going on and off a drive way or over a speed bump. But I do go pretty slow when I do, so that might be key.
I've noticed that sometimes it happens when the body is in motion, and sometimes it happens when I've come to a complete stop. Thanks for the link though, I'll have to look into that

sometimes with the AC running i hear something along the lines of a sound of a stick hitting the ground. are you referring to a clunk like if you were to accidentally shift into first and pop the clutch? Obviously without the jerk though lol. (ps don't try it if you haven't accidentally done it, very very bad for the car).

Although I did get my brakes "serviced" on my last oil change cuz they were squeaking like hell. I wonder if they didn't something right...

If you're turning the wheel at all, putting any kind of load onto the suspension, and you get a clunking, then dollars to donuts it's your front strut tower brace that's loose.
Check the tightness of those bolts.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I've never noticed the sound on rough roads before, so I'll have to keep an ear out for it. When driving on and off a driveway or over a speed bump, though, I don't hear the sound. But I do go slowly when I do, so that may be the answer. turkish citizenship
