Engine Rebuild Taking Over 6 Months

After taking my evo x in for excessive oil consumption + 35% leakdown in piston 1, I was told the rebuild will take roughly two months to complete. Here I am 6.5 months later and still haven't gotten my evo back. Communication has been lacking, I've called every few weeks and it seems like nothing was done for weeks at a time between taking the engine out, having it rebuilt and ready to being back in the car. I was told another project pushed it back 3 weeks and losing a couple employees pushed back another few weeks. What is the window of time that engine rebuilds usually take?

Not an evo enging, but my buddy sent his honda B series block out, and it's been almost 4 months for him, will probably be 5 total before he gets it back. And he sent only the block, i'd imagine sending the whole car is gonna add time too.

It just took me 6 months to get a microwave for my kitchen remodel. Things seem to be getting worse rather than better.

This is why I am building an entire block on the side... trans too... Take it to a shop and say "swap in and don't even start it".... We shall see how well that goes...

Those are crazy long times. Folks are getting taken advantage of, but do understand some is art with niche car makers.

I too build on the side and then do the swap. An engine shouldn't take more than a couple of days...after all the parts arrive (and well planned!)

Bummer to lose a car that long.

Shops don't just work on one car at a time. I do agree that these wait times are stupid. I almost lost my mind during my build. It was very frustrating.

My build also took months. Like majority of the year months. I’m a patient guy by nature, but when my family and friends wouldn’t stop asking me where’s my car then it started getting uncomfortable and anxious, then I got it back and all that disappeared

My engine went, cause the oil came out of it, no thanks to the tech who didn't tighten up the plug. This was July 31st 2021, I had to fight tooth and nail for a brand new motor, which they finally said okay we will get you one. I finally got my car back Nov 16th. Remember of the chip shortages, and what not. Also, my motor was hanging off the coast of Cali on a boat waiting to dock. ehh

Expect a build at a shop to take 8-12 months, especially with current lead times for parts, and then machine shops that are super back logged.

This right here is the reason why you should change your own oil. Never trust anyone with doing that.
