I was thinking of ordering the engine block heater, it costs about $30 USD. Does anyone know whats involved to install one of these and how difficult it is. Info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can purchase the OEM engine block heater. I don't know of anyone that has it so I have no clue how to install it. You can always have the dealership install it.

you should have one if you live in canada. it is a must have for cars in canada

This will be my third winter having my ralliart. Although i've never had any problems starting up in the cold weather, I figure this will help and extend the life of my engine. Installing at a local dealership consists of an hour+ drive, as ours here closed down about 6 months after I got the car. Mitsubishi sent a letter saying they would hope to have a new dealership opened up soon...its been over a year now, and no dealership. Anyway, looks like no one's installed this, guess the dealership will get some of my money when i buy this.

Engine block heater is easy to install. I believe it just goes over the outside of the engine block. It uses electricity from your battery to heat up the oil in your engine and the same all the other major mechanical parts.
I don't remember exactly but the only bad thing about it was that you couldn't run it for longer than 15mins.

That's funny. I thought that an engine block heater plugged into the wall with a timer (to warm you engine for a while before you know you'll be driving).

You will need to drain the coolant from your engine. In some cars you need to remove one of your frost plugs and it goes in there, on other cars there may be a drain for coolant that gets used - I'm not sure which one is used on the Ralliart though - you'll have to look at a Ralliart that has it already installed and go from there.

You can plug it in as long as you want (you do plug it into a wall/outlet, and some people use timers) it just uses up a lot of power to keep it warm and it really doesn't do much good beyond a couple of hours before you start your car.

If you bought the car in Canada, it should already be there - that's probably why you aren't getting any help - it's not because no one has it, it's because everyone in Canada got them with their car.

really? all canadian ones have them? i only ask becuase i never used it this winter becuase i never saw a plug under the hood.

Look on the drivers side under the hood, sorta under the intake, the cord is tucked in there somewhere. And yeah, every one in Canada should have come with a block heater, I don't know of any car that doesn't come with them, though it doesn't seem like very many people use them anymore
Most go into a hole where a freeze plug is, like someone else said, heating the coolant.

I'll believe it when I see it. I always thought that the block heater came as a factory option. I'll have a look and see it that cord is hidden somewhere...
