I believe it's the same as the EVO. could you not just buy the gauge cluster surround?

If you still want to take it apart and paint it. Take out the two screws at the top. Remove Black piece
Remove the three screws and pull the whole thing out (remember to disconnect the wires).

Then separate the clear plastic from the gauges.

Then either you will be able to remove the gauge surround or you can tape and paint it from here.

Sorry it's kinda vague but it's all from memory.

Hope it helps

okay here ya go

remove the two screws directly above the steering column... now that piece just unsnaps from the dash... then once you take that out... you have 3 screws... 2 in the top corners and one in the middle on the bottom that hold the cluster in. Remove the cluster... then the two wire harnesses.... the plastic cover is only clipped in .. then the "circles" are clipped in as well...

If your worried about your mileage... DON'T the odometer has a battery backup...!

Hope that helps...

Nate

This is farely easy to take out, but don't you also need to take off the fake cf dash piece to the left of the steering wheel also? I replaced the guage cluster lights and needles a few months ago so I can't remember exactly step by step everything I did. I just remember it was pretty simple. I have the install instructions somewhere around my house.

For all you people that F around with the dashboard and take it apart; my best advice is to not be scared to really pull on the dash pieces. The clips that keep the dash pieces on are a b!tch to pull out. Even though it may seem like you are going to break them you wont.

When I took out my gauge cluster, I didn't need to remove any fake CF pieces.
