anyone want to tell me the pro's and con's to advancing timing? for example, is this for top end power or low end torque?

Pros: more power without changing any other hard parts.

Cons: advance too far, and you get detonation, which can destroy your engine.

ok, got another question. i'm going to go ahead and advance the timing myself. but which way do i need to slot the bolts? clockwise or counter clockwise to advance. i don't want to retard the timing. if there is a diy on this already just post the link. i couldn't find it.

You'll want to slot the holes to be able to turn the sensor clockwise. A touch with a Dremel and the right bit, or a few strokes with a round file would probably do it. Don't push it too far.
