I just poked around the empty fuse slots with my voltmeter until I found a spot that turns on with the ignition. Stuck a small fuse in it (5A, if I remember right), and attached my power wire to the other side of the fuse.

Works great.

i put mine way in the corner at the top left or my windsheild and have the cord running down the pillar inside (just pops open) and under the dash and into the cigg lighter. its good place so nobody sees it.

This was my original install, I ran the wire along the bottom of the window to the driver side pillar and I spliced it into the the cig. lighter w/ a fuse. I know have a better radar detector and I mounted it on the upper/center of my windshield and ran the wire along the top of the winshield. It is a nice clean look.

rule of thumb: the higher it is, the better for detecting radar, the lower it is the better for detecting laser. and if you dont have a Passport 8500 x50 or a valentine 1........then dont bother getting any other radar detector......

I have the beltronics and I like it a lot. It doesn't matter where you run the main controller because the antenna is in the engine compartment. The laser detectors go in the front and rear windows, but they are small and barely noticable. I installed mine in the bottom cubby hole in the center console. And I'm running the power off of the cigarette lighter fuse so that it powers on and off with the car.

When I get my new head unit the plan is to move it to where the clock is located. Haven't tried that yet because the clock is my only way of telling time in my car right now. lol

well you have a different set up that the standard detector that sticks on your window. the ones that go in your bumpers and far superior to the stick on windows kind. im thinking of getting rid of my 8500 x50 and geting the concealed kind.
