Manually MIVEC enable

Did anyone try applying 12v to the oil control valve referenced in the following thread to manually enable the MIVEC system? Just wondering what would happen? Would anyone be interested in this mod?

I think it would be detrimental to force MIVEC to engage earlier. The way it's setup stock, the changeover happens at the point where the engine is getting into its powerband and doesn't need assistance in creating torque. Also, it'd be tricky to move the changeover point. The engine uses both oil pressure and RPM to decide when to engage MIVEC, and tricking the ECU into thinking it's at a different RPM would obviously have bad side effects.

we'll ive determined some cars switch over at 4500RPM and some switch at 3500RPM, mine is at 4500 and its very noticeable, what i'd like to know is why there seems to be 2 different points on different cars.

They all switch at 3500. The car starts to pull harder at 4500.

It looks to me like the valve has +12v to it all the time, the ECU just controls the ground to complete the circuit. You'd have to manually ground it, not manually apply +12v.

All in all, not a very good idea, IMO. As an exercise, perhaps, but I wouldn't leave it like that. Having a CEL staring up at me drives me nuts.

A manual disconnect switch would be more useful, allowing you to turn off the MIVEC when cruising on the Interstate to save fuel. As long as you don't go above 5,000rpm, it'll run fine.

if this is true,
maybe you need to adjust your valve lash

ok all joking aside,
if this is true though, that would mean that something didnt come out correctly straight from the factory...
i suggest taking it to a stealership and see what they have to say about it.
cause as otter stated, every mivec should switch over at 3.5.

There was an article i read from some automotive magazine about the Lancer Ralliart.. it stated that the Mivec did indeed kick in at 3500, and you feel the best pull at 4500 rpms as otter stated.

I just wish people would go with what they can prove instead of what they see/feel/hear sometimes. I can feel the power kick my in the *** at 4k or so, yes. i can hear the engine change tone at 3500 as well. I must have DUAL MIVEC WOOOTTTT!!!!!1!!!!11!!1!!!1 Then, when I hit 6500 it makes all kinds of noise, I think that's my Mivec valve blowing of extra oil pressure.

If you don't believe mitsu, who can you believe. It's their engine right?
