Hey, so I was wondering... my stock head lamps have a very chalky, crusty look on them. It doesn't come out with soap and water... I'm not even sure if its on the outside. Here's a pic, don't know if you can see it... but its a crusty looking ring. Anyway, any idea's on how to get rid of this?
Try this ...http://www.meguiars.com/estore/produ...ectionID=15101
I used it on my oem lights before I got my projectors, it works and lasts a few weeks per application...

I just picked up a box of Mcguire's head light restoration. I will give it a shot tomorrow after I take my baby to the car wash!

My dad had it done to my moms eclipse, they actually wet sand the lights and wax them does a good job.

What i did was tape off the headlight with painters tape. start with a course grit sand paper say about 400 grit. start wet sanding that until you cover the whole headlight. work your way until you get until a really fine grit sandpaper, about 1500 or so. the whole headlight should look super foggy. once that is done i use a plastx by meguirs and a used a rotary polisher to polish the headlights. once that is done, it should look brand spanking new! this process takes me about 45mins per headlight. use a uv protectant to help slow down the wear on the headlight. i dont know what brand i use because my friend just does that part for me. good luck!
edit: use LONG straight strokes when you are sanding. not short or dont curve or make turns.... itll look bad once you polish it

i just cleaned up a set on my daily driver. used some wax and a wool buffer pad, took care of it. you might want to use an actual polishing compound instead of cutting with wool but straight wax worked for me.
3M also has a product too but if the meguiar's doesn't work the 3M stuff wont work either.

A often overlooked product is the Mothers Aluminium and Mag polish.
Use exactly the same as if it was metal; dab on a bit, rub in, buff out.
The results last looong depending on exposure of the headlights to the elements and/or chemicals used on the vehicle.
