Gauge cluster...blowing LEDs

I'm probably gonna answer my own question here cuz I have a hunch what's wrong. I want to change my guages to blue so I bought a couple LEDs. I put one in, turned on the lights and it worked...for about .001 seconds. I think my mistake was putting just one in, right? Need to equalize the voltage between all the lights? If so, which voltage lights should I get? I can get 3.7v or 5v at Radio Shack. Should I get diffusers too? Probably huh? Last thing, does the one behind the LCD odometer need to be changed the same time too, or is it separate from the 3 that light the gauges? Thanks for any help!

Somebody's got a link to LED gauge lighting in their sig, I just saw it a few hours ago. Damned if I can remember who it was, though. Senility's kicking in early for me.

Anyway, 3.7 or 5 volt LEDs will not take 12 volts. If you want to use those, you'd have to put resistors on each one.

If you want the odometer to light up blue, then you'll need to change that one, too.

Let me know how that goes, cuz I want to change my gauges to blue also and I DONT want to go the route of those overlays.

Found some 12v LED's that come in blue, red, green and amber. They already come in the twist lock socket for gauge clusters. Got them at www.superbrightleds.com for $1.79 each. Also picked up all the rear-end lights.
