im thinking about painting my car as soon as i complete some major mod work done to it .currently saving up for the turbo kit ( $4400 0uch).i was think about a custom paint job using the eclipe paint (its a heat activate paint that changes color when it gets hot) but i cant find anyone around here who has worked with the paint or has the ***** to work with it .the paint is made by alsa. i may have to go to another city or state. does anyone have any suggestions.

You're thinking of the Kameleon paint, which isn't quite the same thing. That changes color based on how the light hits it, not based on the temperature.

For a paintjob like that, you'll most likely have to go out of state, and possibly to a paintshop that specializes in restorations/hot rods, who's more likely to have experience with exotic paints. Heh, and you think that turbo kit is expensive at $4,400 A specialty paint job like that will definitely cost you more. I imagine $8,000 at least.

Yeah. A good tri-coat paint job is usually 6,000+ easy. I bet that paint is insane expensive.... so yeh. 8k plus easy is right.

house of kolors made a exclusive silver back in 05 , my work has a pint of it and that pint is $900 the silver changes colors due heat from silver to purple , ya i think the paint he is talking about runs about 1k for a pint which you need a half gallon or more to paint a car plus you have to use there recommanded primer , clear coat , activater , and prep stuff

I've had some custom colors applied to my STi (before I sold it) and all that I can say is that I wish I had spent the coin on mods rather than paint. Your ride will be unique and I would love to see it done, but in my opinion, it's not worth it. Save it and put the money into mods. You can have the fastest, ugliest street car out there! If you paint it, everyone will want to have the reputation of running 'that slow @zz Evo with the funky paint'. Just an opinion... good luck!

You're saving up for a turbo kit and can afford a custom paint job? In my opinion power > looks.... Its up to you, but that cameleon paint stuff everyone is mentioning or the temp (mood ring style) paint is pricey... Good luck with your choice, though remember its your car, not ours.
