New Seats
New Seats
My dealership apparently does not know for certain whether disabling my side airbags (in otherwords replacing the seats with aftermarkets) would also disable the fronts. I'm assuming they are full of crap and are feeding me it as well, but I have not been able to find out for sure. In addition, is there a way to disable the accompanying SRS light? All thoughts welcome, apologies if the answer lies in another thread. Cheers.
Hmm, I dont have any side airbags in my 06. What would the seats have to do with that anyway? Im not to familier with the Lancer RA, but where are your side airbags located??? Inside the seat? Thats doesnt sound right.
^^In many cars they are including my 08^^. You're probably thinking about the curtain airbags on top of the door frame. The 06 Lancer does not coming with side airbags anyways! I would know...my dad has one.
What's New for 2006
All 2006 Mitsubishi Lancers receive new front fascias, daytime running lamps, a front-seat occupant sensor for airbag deployment and new seat fabrics for 2006. The ES model gets new wheel covers and a rear stabilizer bar, while the Ralliart now features standard side-impact airbags. Antilock brakes become optional for the ES and O-Z Rally. Late in the model year, a new trim level -- the SE -- debuts. It slots between the ES and O-Z Rally.
from edmunds....also the dealer told me i had them when i got my car and if i remember correctly i have srs tags on the sides of my seats

you probably do have side air bags. if you do remove the front seats the srs light will turn on. you will still have front air bags still. it is possible to turn off the srs light. My dealer had a turbo ralliart with ralliart aftermarket seats for sale. The dealer had the program to turn the srs light off but the dealer would not turn mine off (law reasons). If you know your electricity, you could hook up a resitor and fool the computer that you have the side air bags but i dont recommend it.
the outer bolster for both front seats contains an airbag. you can actually tell. that bolster is solid and not just foam underneath the fabric. consider this, you put your after market seats in you car. you get in an accident. suffer a terrible injury, your insurance sees the side impact bags didnt go off, not neccessarily the cause for you injury, but they have the power at that point to not give you a dime for tampering with the SRS system. its not worth it in my opinion. its a big risk. RA seats are pretty nice anyways.

First hand experience.
Yes side airbag is in the seats. Yes your whole airbag system is NIL once you remove the sensor connection from disconnecting the seat. The dealership will NOT reflash your SRS system because it is a liability for them to trick the SRS system to think there are airbags that work but actually don't.
I have aftermarket seats in mine.

This is what a Mitsu tech on my local forum told me yup. And even though he is a good guy he still can't flash the SRS once again cause it's a liability. I took the risk and I know the consequences. I've also filed my report with DOT Canada about disabling the airbags so they have the record.

if I'm correct the new laws require all sedans from 2007 up to have side airbags as a standard... But don't quote me on it, i assumed that was the reason why there was no 2007 lancer/evo...
my 2004 has side airbags in the seat.
