If you do run it along the route of the tunnel then i guess you will be blowing hot air into your intake since there is something else that gets really hot there also. Sorry, if your worried about smog don't mod your car, because they can fail you for almost any mod then since everything is before the cat.
I've been thinking about this...what about some fiberglass insulation between the exhaust pipe and intake pipe along the path...would that ward off enough heat?

I dont think it would, it would have to be some thick stuff to keep it from heating up. Plus there isnt enough room up front to get the piping back up into the motor. That would be all hot air going back in. It is fine for cars like the corvete ect. I dont see a practicle use for this on our cars. Plus if someone really wanted to they could take the turbo off the car and then you would be SOL lol. The cars this system is mostly made for have a really low rear. Also you ahve to run oil lines to the rear of the car or put a oil pump with a cooler for the turbo back there. There is more then just putting on the exhaust and calling it good. Also the aire intake would bave to be put in your trunk to keep it from sucking up water ect. Just a couple things to think about among the heat soak the pipe will get from the rear of the car to the front. Even if you did do this, you cant run to high boost, due to the heat in the air. The only way to do this and cool the air would be to use somthing like what RPW uses with there turbo kit, use water to cool the air.

People buy cold air intakes for our cars and manage to fit them down to the front bumper...so this is a non issue. Between the firewall and the engine, there's enough room to slip an elephant in there.

Easily done on a pickup truck, but with our cars being so low, and the complexity itself, I seriously doubt someone would know you have a turbo in the back (unless you're dumb enough to put STS stickers all over your car). Plus you can always buy locking nuts so that this doesn't happen.

The corvettes that have this don't put the air intake in the trunk so why would we.

The only issue in this is the heat soak. I'm wondering how hot that return pipe would be. The reason is...thinking about wrapping it in a spiral in copper tubing (like the kind that is in the back of your fridge, with water running through the tubing off of a T junction from the radiator cooling fluid outlet pipe, with the help of a 5 Gallon a minute water pump.

You could buy the copper spiral here that will fit tightly around the exhaust, with the whole thing wrapped in fiberglass to insulate it.
