Like i said about the daewoos if they're generally from the same family little to no fabrication is needed to directly swapping in.

just called the tech...

He said that the MR "Could" but he'd not 100% sure... would use a lil fabrication most likely...

However he said that you'd probably need to swap parts between the two trannys (bellhousings i think and he mentioned a few others) if you try to bolt up with the new v6 transmissions

You are correct...the evo is AWD, ralliart is FWD....The trannys are not interchangeable.

we know they are not direct bolt in swaps... but do they not also throw the complete engine and tranny from a R34 Skyline into a RWD 240sx

LoL yes, but i'm just looking for a quicker acceleration down the road... i guess my best bet would be to hold off a year or few and run down to the local salvage yard.

However, a tranny swap is no replacement for a good engine tune.

I agree that it is in the tuning that makes the difference at a reasonable cost!

BTW, since I own a Ralliart and recently an EVO8, I checked and found that it would be pretty tight to setup a 4G63 into the Ralliart. Verified this with a couple of Mitsu dealer mechanics. In fact I found an OZ owner who had purchased a 4G63 but gave up on the project due to the issue of fit in the engine room.

Also, the RS, VIII and MR are pretty much the same mechanically except for the 6-speed in the MR. Also, the MR has lighter body panels (aluminum fender and roof) over the RS and VIII. All have lightweight aluminum hoods.

Time permitting, I will continue comparing these 2 cars and I will keep you folks posted.

Evo MR tranny would most likely fit with some modifications. Cost would be a whole nother issue because if you were gonna do that you might as well get the T-case, driveshaft, rear diff, and rear axles and cut a driveshaft tunnel to convert to AWD cuz ur gonna spend alot either way, and you might as well do it while you have the tranny out... Just find a junked evo for all the parts except the six speed tranny (seeing as it will be EXTREMELY hard to find a wrecked MR) and find a very knowledgeable shop to do the install for you. Although now that I just noticed ur worried about gas milage i guess i could take all that back seeing as you will use even more gas with the awd setup no matter if you are in mivec on the freeway or not which I'm assuming is why you want the sixth gear to be outta mivec on the freeway to save gas...(correct me if I'm wrong). Overall I don't think I'd really be that worth it unless you were goin down the awd path and could get ur hands on a MR tranny, otherwise there isn't a real good reason to even go with the six speed, it's more creature comfort than anything.

You could get the majority of the parts used, and do the work yourself. You're looking to spend somewhere around 2500 - 3500, depending on where you get your parts and how much you actually do yourself. If it were me, I would have a qualified tranny shop install the front LSD to ensure that at least that work is warantied, and guaranteed to work.

If you drive say, 13000 miles a year and get 25mpg, with gas being about $1.90 a gallon you'd spend just about a grand a year on gas. Now if you got 30mpg, you'd spend about $820...it might seems like you're using a lot of gas, but it's not really THAT much. I do know how you feel though, I fill my tank once a week and those numbers are what I pay and get mileage-wise. I do agree tho, a 6th gear or lower 5th would be nice for long drives.

With all the custom labor, I'm thinkin more like 3500-4500. There would be quite a few one off parts and adaptors.
