dynomax or megan racing?
dynomax or megan racing?
i been car shopping and im gonna get a ralliart in sept ( wait til the price go down) and im been doing some searches and researching and is a 2.5 catback to big for the RA? i mean its a 2.4 liter right? so i think it can take it. But if it is ok i was wondering if the dynomax would sound good with the rrm dp, cai, high flow cat? i heard the megan racing and love the deep sexy sound it produce. i heard a dynomax on a civic and bought it out really good made it sound like a v6 kinda! Also what size high flow cat would i get since the rrm dp is 2.25?
thanks for the help

Megan racing is garbage, at least from my experience. They are VERY LOUD without the silencer and generally dont last long. I dont have any experience with dynomax, but ive heard decent things about them.
I had the megan on my RA until I was in an accadent that wiped out my exhaust and rear 1/2 of the car. Juts got the car back 2 days ago =)
anyway, other RA's around have the magnaflow mufflers /w the same exhaust setup (2.5" catback) and the megan was the most muffled of the 4 i've hard, by far. as for them being loud, its more silent than most straight-through mufflers. however, if you want to keep it less loud, simply dont get a straight-through! its the only answer...
for the width, check my dyno's in the registry. I have one posted with the stock exhaust and one with the 2.5" /w the magnaflow muffler. With the 2.5" catback, I dropped my 1/4 mile time by about .15 - .20 seconds, which is pretty good. I did lose about 1lb of peak torque, but that is insignificant given atmosphere changes (being 2 months further into spring, as opposed to dead-of-winter). However, I did gain a longer torque AND power band, which was significant. It had more kick further towards redline and really helped while racing, or while accelerating on the highway, for that matter. low end torque was not effected in any noticable way.
since i've had the car back after the accadent (only a 2.5 days), ive noticed the lose of extra get-up in higher RPM ranges, and I do plan on having the exhaust done again in the near future.
being one of the few people with first hand experiece with exactly the quesitons you are asking, i think my opinion and my hard proof show that 2.5 is not too big for the mods you have and that the megan muffler isnt as bad as everyone says (at least note the m-spec....the other types may varry). good luck!

mitsubeastin it all depends on what sound you want and what type of style muffler you like? just dont get companies like 3a racing, ractive, ebay mufflers i had a ebay on my mirage and i never buy a cheap muffler again. like my father told me 'When it comes to parts DONT GO CHEAP" i have a dynomax on my mirage and its really deep sexy tone to it but each cars sound different just kinda gotta experiment around.
