chowetime, I'm quite sure you guys are not getting the same tranny as we got. You're getting the european tranny, which is geared longuer for fuel economy. They have much higher gas prices over there...

And BTW, my car is tuned for 87 octane (I guess RON is the same as octane, right?). Every car in north-america which is not required to run premium petrol will run fine on 87...

Also the SAE specifications just changed for all 06 models so HP rating is lower but in our old terms it is really higher. So the new RA unless their using the old specs si really like 170hp crank. RRM dyoned their stock RA somewhere around 135ish I do believe.

what advantages do you guys get with that tranny? and do you guys have he infamous 1st-goin-into-2nd grind? alot of US ralliarts "grind" the 2nd gear, even when shifted perfectly

here are a few stats for you to compare with gear ratios are:
1st 3.583
2nd 1.947
3rd 1.379
4th 1.030
5th 0.820
final 4.058
reverse 3.363

compression is only 9.5:1

it may still be just a simple tuning thing that can unleash some of that hiden power wether that will be achieved from a piggy back or a stand alone I am not sure, a complete exhaust system will help out big time as well if it is an emissions thing

Hey guys, i dont know what they did to the new '06 RA but i dont have any grinding from 1st to second. Its a little different then my eclipse, but it doesnt grind. Maybe they fixed something in this years model. The tranny in mine works great. You just have to get into the powerband (4000+ Rpm) and it shifts perfectly.

Have you done any hard shifts? For example, racing through first gear up to about 6500 rpm, then slamming it down to 2nd? This is what causes the grinding in the 04-05s.

Yea, i tried it when I heard everyone complaining about the grinding. Nothing. Ive gone as high as 7k and nothing. Maybe they adjusted something in the '06 RA cause Ive been extremely impressed with everything so far. I did feel it on the '05 RA while driving a friends.

has anyone got what the US gear ratios are like as I would really like to compare the difference between them - I just feel that it will help me to find a few extra H.P like you guys have as a base start point

No grind here.

1 - 2 shift is easy and smooth as butter for me.

!!! Looks like the same ratios to me! That means the Australian RA gets the same tranny as us! Hmmmm... that exhaust must be really restrictive then!

thanks for that bit of info most helpful in reducing the possible points ofrestriction of power... which basicly just leaves 3 areas of were it can be -
Exhaust - apparently I have heard that next year there are new emmission regulations, and this car passess all of them in 3 countries.... so my guess is that it must be very restrictive and the cat convertor is probably to blame
ECU - must have a very very mild state of tune.... which probably explains why the fuel consumption is higher than I would of thought 9.4lt to 100klm (sorry not good with miles and gallons)
T/B/ intake - not sure why I have written that in but the new fly by wire has me concerned that it could be controling a whole lot more than the butterfly... did you know that we may have a replacement one of these and it is still going to be FBW retaining all factory settings and will be 65mm just have to wait a little longer for the results are out on this one

I suppose the encouraging thing is that if ou guys have got that much extra h.p then there is no doubt we should be able to achieve the same although my aim is a little higher closer to the 200hp at the wheels
