Exhaust Suggestions

Didn't know where to post this becuase I'm not looking to get any hp or anyhing out of my car.

Basicaly I am getting a little bored with my car. I don't have any mods, and I don't really have any money to pour into the car to make it faster. I was acutualy going to trade it for a CTS, but I didn't realize that these cars are worth nothing when you try to trade them in.

Long story short, I want to get rid of my cheap fart can I have on the car now. It sounds really awesome, but the tip part looks like crap. Im thinking about another fart can, or something like the RRM axel back. Just wanted to get some ideas. I did a search and can't find anything other than posts on RRM stuff. I would like to find something a little more quiet. Something that just hums unless I really get on it. After reading the reviews on the axel back, Im a little worried about going with it. Seems like it burns paint, and the customer service at RRM is lacking.

Any ideas??

Customer service only lacks if you talk to the wrong guys. I was missing a reciept with my shipment, called them up a bunch a times and couldn't get help. Then someone here told me to make sure I talked to Rob or one of the other big shots in the shop. next call the problem was solved real easily

I would go to your local exhaust shop. They should have a book of mufflers for you to choose from. I personally went with a Volt muffler that has the burnt bluish looking tip on it. Then I threw in a resonator and it has a nice deep tone to it. Not annoying at all. For my whole 2.25" CB I paid right around $300. Here's the best pic I have of it right now.

^Sorry, I've been meaning to change it because it was getting pretty annoying to me too. So there you go. Is that better?

I don't know who started that crap about the RRM axleback burning paint, but it's nowhere near true. The tip they use is double-walled. You could go beat the crap out of your car, then still put your hand on the outside of the tip without getting burned.

^^^They used a single wall tip on mine...but my paint does not burn.

I have some vids of the exhaust in my sig.

It is exactley what you are describing, quiet hum when you are not on it and it sounds great when you are on it. I would recommend it.

Yeah, I called last week and the guy who picked up the phone sounded like he wasn't going to be real helpful at all. He put me on hold and I think rob picked it up. I can't remember for sure but thats my problem everyday after I talked to him I hung up and had to call back. I got the same guy I talked to the first time, who all of a sudden was very helpful. go figure. I guess it's like any place you call, sometimes they want to pick it up and sometimes they want to throw it out the window.

I use the RRM axleback, no paint burn. I also read(i think its located in the reviews or something Otter) about the paint burn, it's not true unless the people who installed it angled the muffler funny.

I got a megan racing ("carbon TI II", I believe) exhaust: nice, cheap and sounds great! To add on burning paint, accoding to the muffler shop you burn paint by not having the muffler sticking out far enough, if the hot fumes are blowing up into the bumber it is going to melt...

If you install the muffler(rrm) in the upper hole and not the lower hole then yes you will melt the **** out of your bumper.

I have the Ultimate-Racing Axle-back... it is pretty much the same as the RRM... One of the brackets was slightly bent at first so it melted my bumper but I fixed it... I think it bent during shipping... Works good now...
