How far does your left foot press the clutch before you shift?
I've searched this a few times but didn't find anything related to this so here goes.
I've been driving manual since August 2005. From the beginning, I'd always press the clutch all the way to the bottom before changing gears. Recently I tried changing gears without it being pressed all the way and to my surprise, It actually worked without any gear grind. I found that I was able to change gears as soon as I hit the friction point of the clutch.
Now my question is : By not engaging the clutch all the way, will this wear out the gears prematurely or is the clutch made to be shifted that way?

My left foot presses as far as it feels is safe. Every once in awhile we will have a talk because he isn't paying attention and will make my right hand grind a gear, or miss a gear.
.....and I'm not crazy for talking to my extremeties.

you dont have to compress the clutch as far in becuase our cars come stock with a shorter clutch. thus you only have to engage your clutch about 2 inches for it to work. its all bout the ralliart baby.

I thought with a hydraulic clutch it would be wise to push it right down.
I remember my old civic with cable I would just smash away on it
