Tranny Probs

Well, my first indications of tranny damage... 3rd gear grinds hard when shifted from above 4000 rpm(that means 2nd to 3rd shift)... Also, the shifter started to get heavy to shift any gear..... This happens when the car is driven for a long time..

Q.. Is there any chance my tranny oil, which is synthethic, has to do with any of this. I ask this cuz it started doing it when i changed the tranny oil

Which tranny oil? I have heard that synchros don't like synthetic tranny fluid unless it's specifically designed for sychros (like BG Synchroshift or GM's Sychromesh)

Not if he takes it in and they drain an unapproved fluid out of it.

If you put in something like Mobil1 synthetic gear lube, it will grind. Try changing it to BG Synchroshift or GM or Pennzoil Synchromesh. Drive around a bit on that stuff to flush out the traces of the synthetic in there, and the shifting should get better.

Had a problem with it in a previous car, have heard of others having problems with it in their Lancers.

^Mobil 1 synthetic tranny fluid is not all that great of a product. I ran into the same problem in the past and switched to Royal Purple's Sychromax and never turned back. Try using RP's Sychromax or GM's Sychromesh, I think you will be pleased.

No, PR Mivec is not an auto... I stay true to the original fiebru recipe

Just when the car's clutch is in its last legs this happens....that and my tires cant take the power anymore

BTW Got me some Royal Purple today, lets see if it calms my worries

Does anyone try / use Redline MT90 ? 300ZX are notorious for tranny 4rth gear grinds and synchro issues. These stuff and Royal Purple seems to cure most issues.
