Exclamation Piggy Problem

did a little work on my map for the RRM piggy today, went to connect to the ECU and I got an error message that opened repeatedly on its own, then the program shut down. The message read:

Error#9 was generated by Project1
Application-defined or object-defined error

I called split second and RRM but its late on a saturday. If anyone has some suggestions i'll take them.

was the car running? Can you open the file and play with it still? Can you create a new customer and connect to the ECU with that file(if so make sure you read off the ecu to make sure the map hasn't changed)? Do you have the correct com port selected?

reset the ecu by unhooking the battery. try restarting your laptop, or even re-installing your R4 software.

yea i was thinking of reinstalling, but i tried purposely setting it to the wrong com port and even trying to connect without the wire actually connected and that created different messages. i also tried my usb to serial adapter on one of my universal remotes so i know that didnt die. so i think its the piggy. ill reinstall the software tonight try it tomorrow and if that doesnt work reset w/ battery disconnect. is it possible that having the battery unplugged for over 24hours started this problem?

I am not sure how the piggy stores the maps, I believe it is ROM so leaving the battery unhooked shouldn't affect it. If it stores data using a battery backup for user changeable data (like a CMOS) it's possible.

I've been back and forth with split second on the phone yesterday and today. nice guys very helpful. the error message refers to the serial communication between me and the ECU. I just sat at the car while the guy I was speaking to ran through his list of ideas and our last chance is that I hook up with a different PC, cables, and different usb->serial adapter. I personally don't think my equipment is the problem since i use the same cables etc. for work and haven't been having any issues. I hope to do this test tonight and will let everyone know how it goes.

Mine connected just fine with the $24 Wal*Mart USB-serial converter. From there, I have either a 9-pin straight through serial extension cable or a USB extension cable I can use. Works fine either way. I plugged the serial extension into the piggy, and tucked it up in the dash with just the wire hanging out.

Ive used this same setup many times before. Just got back from my dads house used his pc adapter and wires worked, then tried his wire and adapter on my pc and it still didnt work. so tomorrow im going to uninstall/reinstall the program to see if it works. i used my adapter and cable to upload and download other devices at work today so i know its not that and its not the ecu or my pc. guess its the software.

I was going to tell you that. I just saw this thread. I have not been surfing much since Gabe passed. This is only the second one in 2 years but it is related to the cables for sure. We connected to it before we shipped (to load Base map)it so we now it worked for us.
